It has been picks, for the Los Angeles Rams in 2019, not looking quite like the team who knocked off the New Orleans Saints to reach the Super Bowl to play the Patriots last season. They scored just three points in that game, falling in one of the lowest-scoring NFL Championships we have ever seen. At 5-3, the Rams sit behind the league’s only undefeated team in San Francisco and the rising Seahawks in the NFC West standings. They haven’t been bad by any stretch, but they aren’t impressing.
Pittsburgh, on the other hand, has gone through big turnover at the wide receiver spot, while changing up the running back spot several times and starting three QBs. But the Steelers are at .500 through eight games and continuing to fight in the AFC North. They took a tough loss to the Ravens earlier in the year, a game that marked the first of what has been four straight Baltimore wins. Jaylen Samuels has stepped in and done a good job for the injured James Conner.
Despite being the road team, the Rams find themselves as 3.5-point favorites. The over/under is set at 44.
Rams Look To Close The Gap
Trailing two teams in the highly competitive NFC West, the Rams will be looking to pick up a key road win in their ninth contest of the season. Despite a highly-inconsistent Jared Goff, the Rams still boast the eighth-highest scoring offense in the league and hope to use that to their advantage. Todd Gurley is averaging just 13 rushes per game despite being a prolific running back for the past few years, that combined with Sean McVay’s apparent dislike of running the ball have kept it in Goff’s hands more often than not.
Cooper Kupp has looked like one of the NFL’s top wideouts this year, with his absence last year now clearly a bigger deal than we had thought. They boast the best defensive player in the league in Aaron Donald, so let’s see what he has in store for Mason Rudolph and Pittsburgh’s offensive line.
Over .500?
To see this team sitting where it is despite significant roster changes and injuries is very impressive. The Steelers don’t score too many points, but rank 13th in the league in points allowed, and their trading for Minkah Fitzpatrick is proving to be a potential season-saving move at this juncture. It would have seemed earlier in the year that canning Mike Tomlin was an option, but no matter what, this team just seems to continue fighting and believing in one another.
Defensively, the Steelers have stepped up when needed against the Chargers and Colts, while limiting Miami to very little offense in the second half of their primetime game. Look for them to come out playing hard in this one.
