A man from Alabama named Jory D’Michael Trayvunn Dumas appeared in the court recently and was convicted for stealing $200,000 at the Wild Creek Mongomery Casino in Montgomery, Ala., in a casino heist that took place this past March. Dumas will now be able to rethink his actions, as he is about to face 20 years in prison.
All could have been planned better, but he and his team had a couple of holes in their plan that made them exposed to security. They eventually got caught and are all now brought under the firm hand of justice.
Dumas’ team consisted of two other people — Timothy Dean Pettiway and Courtney Deandra Stanton. The three of them planned to rob the property owned by the Poach Creek Band and were able to steal a total of $193,000. At that point, they remained relatively unnoticed, but the investigation eventually managed to complete the puzzle and find out their identities in order to convict them for a casino robbery.
The reason why they managed to pull off their plan at first was that Stanton was an employee of the casino at the time they executed their plan. Moreover, the 28-year-old Dumas also had experience working for the same facility for some time. However, Dumas was fired as he had been accused of theft.
How Were They Captured?
One of the main reasons why the trio was debunked and eventually brought to justice is that security managed to review the footage and notice everything that was out of the ordinary. What caught their attention was that one of their employees was acting out of character. Once they spotted that, they immediately knew that something was not right and that they needed to investigate that further.
What happened really is that Dumas reportedly contacted Stanton, who was working at the casino, and told her about his scheme. He managed to convince her to “forget” a set of keys and leave them on top of the kiosk for exchange.
Pettiway was the next main focus of the action, as he somehow managed to stumble upon the very same kiosk and use the keys to remove a cash box. He then went to the restroom and returned to grab another cash box.
In fact, he repeated the routine a couple of times. Dumas was the one to wait in the restroom and open the cash boxes, as they managed to finally walk away with their hard-earned wage.
Now, all of that would have been perfectly executed if it hadn’t been for cameras that captured it all on film. The two former employees seemed to have completely forgotten about this “old” piece of technology that has been in use for more than 30 years.
They completely neglected the fact that there are cameras all around the casino and proceeded with their plan as if it was planned by a mastermind. The reality is completely different, though. The two robbers and the casino employee will not go down in history as masterminds.
