A pair of NFC West squads will square off on Sunday when the Los Angeles Rams visit the Arizona Cardinals.
Coming off a game in which absolutely everything went wrong against Baltimore, Los Angeles needs to just shake it off and move on. The Rams’ very slim playoff chances will stay as they are if they can get back to their winning ways. This has been an up-and-down group all year, but a 45-6 shellacking by the Ravens in which Los Angeles gained 221 yards and allowed 480 was not something expected. All of the Rams’ DBs were getting burned, while they surrendered 285 yards on the ground to the ever-tricky Ravens.
Arizona, meanwhile, has not won a contest in over a month. The Cardinals raced out to a 3-3-1 start with a solid three-week winning streak. Despite these wins coming against teams with nothing but losses, they still count as victories. Kyler Murray has looked very good in his rookie season, while the defense has looked as bad as any in the league. The Cardinals continue to shuffle through running backs, unsure of what exactly they are doing there. David Johnson should be the unquestioned starter when he is healthy, but they seem to have other thoughts.
The visiting Rams find themselves as three-point favorites, while the over/under is set at 47.
Los Angeles Trying To Right The Ship
The ship, so to speak, is terribly off course after the Ravens got everything they wanted and more against this Los Angeles defense. The surprising part is how quickly the Rams have fallen off on that side of the football after such success last year. They have the likes of Eric Weddle and Jalen Ramsey in their secondary, with Aaron Donald, Cory Littleton, Clay Matthews and Dante Fowler up front. They have playmakers everywhere, but something has got to be going on off the field that is making them play like they are all on different pages. It has been shocking to see.
The lack of a consistent run game has also been mind-boggling when you have Todd Gurley. They gained just 22 rushing yards against Baltimore and have been held under 100 as a team on seven occasions. They have also scored under 20 points in three straight games. Good thing they paid Jared Goff so much money!
Cardinals Look For A Win
Four losses in a row, but this Cardinals team is continuing to stay competitive. Most of their losses of late have been in close games, and it is a matter of their defense not stepping up. In eight of their 11 games, the Cardinals have surrendered 400-plus yards of offense, often negating all of the late-game positives and heroics of Murray, who has 14 TD passes and four rushing scores. He started the year horribly versus Detroit before rallying the team from 18 down to force overtime. They have not won a game in which they had fewer than 26 points.
If the Cardinals defense can get to Goff early, they could have a chance. The Rams should be very scared of Terrell Suggs.
