The New York Jets get the task that no one in the NFL wants: Going to Baltimore to try to defeat the Ravens. The two AFC squads will clash on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 15 of the NFL season.
Even though they have started playing better football of late, the Jets sit three games under .500 and have had as much controversy as any other team in the league. Le’ Veon Bell may be out next year, and there is no guaranteed return coming for Adam Gase. Sam Darnold has looked very solid and is taking to the team to some wins, despite several injuries threatening to derail them. The Jets have some talent, even if they won’t be in the playoffs this season.
Baltimore, meanwhile, is the hottest team in all of the NFL, having won nine games in a row after dropping back-to-back games to the Browns and Chiefs in Weeks 3 and 4. No losses have come for these Ravens in primetime, where they have shown their best. Lamar Jackson is running the ball like no quarterback has since Michael Vick’s 1,069 yards in 2006, and is proving very hard to tackle. And at the same time, he is limiting his turnovers as a passer, firing off touchdown darts all over the place.
The spread for Thursday night’s game has the Ravens set as 15.5-point favorites at home. The over/under is set at 45.5.
Jets Try To Do What Others Can’t
Facing off with a team that has won nine contests in a row, the Jets face a tough matchup. The wins have not come as easily for New York, which is the only team to fall victim to a Bengals team that has gone just 1-11. The Jets were also the first team to be beaten by the Dolphins and nearly lost to them again last week, squeaking one out on the foot of Sam Ficken. Whether or not they have Bell, the offense is doing enough to get by, and that is what matters. The “QB whisperer” Gase hasn’t been bad this year, but there is work to be done.
The Jets’ defense will have to be the origin for the winning opportunity in this one or even covering the spread. They will have to slow the running of Jackson and Mark Ingram to have a shot.
Ravens Looking To Stay Hot
The 11-2 Ravens could get closer to unseating New England as the AFC’s top seed with a win in this one. Baltimore has not won like this since Ray Lewis was leading the defense. At 11-2, the Ravens have already clinched the AFC North and are a full game ahead of New England, with the tiebreaker after beating them earlier this season. It Is going to enhance their chances tenfold of going all the way if they can have the top record in the AFC.
Baltimore’s defense has been making a number of big plays this year. Pick-sixes, fumble recoveries, and getting pressure on opposing QBs. They are doing it all.
Baltimore Gets 10th Win
Sorry Jets, but it is Ravens territory! New York will keep it close early but will fail to cover the spread. I’m taking Baltimore.
