The Kansas City Chiefs look for their fifth straight win when they take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football.
After a slow start to the year, compounded with a serious-looking injury to Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs have come back scorching, with Mahomes back to his magical ways. They have been as hot as any team not named the Ravens but will need to win out with other teams taking some losses too if they want to have more than one home playoff game. They lost to the Patriots in the AFC title game last year but are 2-0 against Lamar Jackson in this league.
Chicago has already missed out on the postseason, but considering the injuries and inconsistencies, 7-7 is not a bad place for it to stand right now. They will likely bring Mitch Trubisky back at quarterback next season, but he will have some real work to do if he wants to keep his job beyond then. The entire offense has been moving in place this year, the running game far worse after the trading of Jordan Howard. They have a chance to play spoiler and officially hand Kansas City the No. 3 seed.
Kansas City is set as a six-point road favorite in primetime, with the over/under set at 44.5.
KC Looks To Keep Rolling
Not too many would have expected the Chiefs to be 10-4 after a 5-3 start, but boy, have they gotten hot, picking up wins in five of their past six games. They took care of the Patriots a few weeks ago before routing the slumping Broncos last week.
Mahomes is back to doing what he does, throwing 23 touchdowns to just four picks this year while completing 66 percent of his throws and firing for 3,606 yards. He is doing this with far and away the worst running game in the entire NFL, which really magnifies how impressive it has been. That may not be the Chiefs’ season-dooming category, but it could.
Kansas City will need to navigate around Khalil Mack and the gang to have its best chance. If the Chiefs can avoid the pressure and pick up yards on key third downs, we can book the win.
Bears Trying For Strong Finish
A loss on Sunday would ensure Chicago could only finish .500 and no better. Trubisky has dealt with injuries, while the running game and playcalling have looked atrocious. Anthony Miller has stepped up in recent weeks after hardly being involved for much of the year.
But after the Bears were division champs last year, Philadelphia got them in the opening round of the playoffs, and this is how they come back from that, with a failure to qualify for the next part of the campaign. You really hate to see it and hope they can come back strong next year.
With some injuries up front, there is more of a purpose for Mack to do his thing. He has been double- and triple-covered for most of the year and has 7.5 sacks so far.
Chiefs Win On The Road
A sure win is coming for Kansas City. Sorry Bears, it isn’t your week.
