Ah, the classic matchup of teams with flip records. You love to see it, especially this late in the season. Denver is coming off a surprising loss to the Warriors, so they’ll likely be trying to beat the Hornets to avoid a two-game skid to teams well-below .500.
This shouldn’t be too big of an issue based on the struggling offense of the young Hornets. Every game is critical for them as they try to end up as the #2 spot in the crowded West.
It has not been a great year for Charlotte, but there is plenty of time to finish positively and carry some positive momentum into next year. They don’t win too many games, but their backcourt features two guys that can get their own shot and can also get hot at times when their team needs it.
But neither Terry Rozier or Devonte Graham have proven that their strong play can make a difference in the final score of games. That’s the next step to elevate their games.
Denver is an eight-point favorite in Charlotte tonight. Their moneyline is -340, while CHA is a +270 underdog.
Denver looking to get it done
Considering the depth of their lineup and number of scorers they possess, it is truly surprising that 17 teams score more points per game than the Nuggets. But still, they have twice as many wins as losses, and the ball is bouncing their way more often than not. And they have their Serbian big man, Nikola Jokic, to thank.
He is crushing it this season, and really playing some fantastic ball. Not too many guys in the league are hotter than him, and nobody is able to do the things he does while exerting seemingly little effort. They also do rank #4 in the league in attendance, so it helps to have all those cheeks in seats.
The trading of Malik Beasley and Juancho Hernangomez was a necessary move, but seeing them thriving in Minnesota has got to give them a little seller’s remorse. It opened the rotation here for Torrey Craig and rookie Michael Porter Jr.
Hornets looking to capture headlines
A win in this game will have them basking in the headline glory. Coming off a disappointing defeat against the Spurs, they’ll be looking to bounce back and pick up their 21st win of the year. They got Cody Zeller back in the lineup finally, and all of their bigs are now healthy.
They might be without Devonte Graham, a guy they need to have while Malik Monk is suspended for his failed drug test. He had been playing great ball off the bench, and his season was ultimately cut short. And you hate to see that happen with such a young player.
Zeller, Bismack Biyombo, and Willy Hernangomez will have the unenviable task of trying to stop Jokic tonight. We wish them luck.
