The Fighters
Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (30-4-0) is sitting on the featherweight title and is daring anyone to try and stop him. He has a current five-fight win streak that has been excellent this far.
He has shown that he can take on anyone that faces him with, with 10 wins by knockout and 11 submissions. He had only been knocked out one time, with other losses being decisions that happened to go against him.
His aggressiveness is key to a lot of his fights since Pitbull stands at 65 inches and has a reach of 65.5 inches, you can see where he may have a disadvantage. He has managed to ignore that and make the most out of his fighting techniques.
Pedro Carvalho (11-3-0) has a current six-fight win streak and pretty much been on a tear. Most of his wins have been submissions, so he has shown that he is great fighting on the ground.
It has been a while since his last defeat, so he has a lot of confidence heading into this one.
If you look at Carvalho on paper, he stands at 71 inches tall and has a reach of about 70 inches. With these numbers, he has a great advantage for this fight since he has roughly a five-inch difference in both his height and reach compared to Pitbull.
Potential Outcome
Patricio Pitbull is a name that most fighters should be afraid of, especially if you look at his fighting resume. Pedro Carvalho has been excellent so far, has something to prove, and is not scared of the challenge ahead. Does he have the experience necessary to pull it off?
Pedro Carvalho has deserved this fight since his recent success in Bellator. This guy has a promising career ahead of him. He should be able to handle himself on the ground against Pitbull, but one could argue that he needs to stay on the ground and work out a victory that way.
I am not completely sold on him trying to stand up and fight with Pitbull, even though he has a great reach difference.
Pitbull should be able to defend himself here and not risk being knocked out. However, if Carvalho can wear him down, this could be dangerous.
Overall, I still think the winner will be Pitbull. He has the experience fighting against a hungry opponent looking to move up in Bellator, and he has a better overall resume compared to Carvalho.
