The world of Online Poker has continued to gain steam, becoming more and more mainstream in the latest months, And now the World Poker Tour had its inaugural world championship. The whole thing started in mid-July, and it will continue on through the 17th of September.
The first event was the Hi-Lo Championship, one which featured over 145 different entries, with a guarantee of $50,000 in the prize pool. It is pretty clear that many were excited to partake in the event, judging by the number of entries. The buy-in for the Micro version was $33, which drew 1,304 entries in all.
The minimum payout for the Hi-Lo event was set at $9,175, compensation for the $3,200 entry fee very handsomely. The worst players were able to nearly triple the amount they started with, making their participation very worth it.
Hi-Lo Winners
Each of the top three finishers found themselves finishing with more than $85,000. Paul Tedeschi of the UK was the champion here, with his total earnings coming in at a cool $92,105. In second place was Dan Shak of Monaco, who finished with a nice $87,720. And in third was Anssi Kinttala of Finland, bringing in $86,628.
Tedeschi has had a very successful professional Poker career, making nearly $3 million in total. In an interview after the match, he answered questions about his strategy and spoke on how excited he was to come away victorious. Seeing him pick up the win was not too surprising, as he’s been known to be fantastic at what he does.
There will be 11 other events at the WPT World Online Championships, so Tedeschi is going to be ready to get right back on his horse and dive back in.
PLO Championship Winners
There was a $1 million prize pool for this event and over 342 entries. The buy-in was again set at $32,00 with the winner winding up, taking in in excess of $176,000. And that winner was Alex Manzano of Chile, the official number $176,132. In second was Paresh Doshi of the UK, netting $167,272. And in third place was Laszlo Bujitas of Hungry, at $106,163. The minimum payout was just over $5,000.
Manzano’s win may come as a bit of a surprise, as his career poker earnings had been a meager $63,000. But he has dominated in the casino world, racking up over $736,000. He came, he saw, and he conquered at this event, taking his stiff competition and disposing of them.
Charity Component
The 1 Day Sooner Organization was the main charity, which is dedicated to finding a vaccine for COVID-19 through human challenge trials. They have over $32,000 volunteers registered from 140 countries so far.
The tournament, with buy-in numbers combined with additional donations, reached over $50,000. And given that this was the first of 12 WPT World Online Championship events, the number is going to increase exponentially.
