A great battle will ensue between two teams fighting for the #1 seed in their respective conference as the Kansas City Chiefs head to New Orleans to face the Saints with kickoff set for 4:25 ET. At 12-1, all KC has to do is win out. The Saints will have to win and hope Green Bay falls short along the way. This game marks the return of Drew Brees, though New Orleans is without Michael Thomas for the rest of the regular season.
There hasn’t been much in the realm of flaws for KC, as Patrick Mahomes is slinging the ball all over the field. Nobody has been able to slow him down or keep him from firing off TD passes to his guys left and right. And Travis Kelce is having another season for the ages, as Tyreek Hill catches all of the throws that he isn’t.
NOLA is where they are in large part because of their defense. The numbers are a bit overinflated after they played a Denver team without a QB active, but still. They limit all their opponents to low yardage totals and make life hard. With Drew Brees coming back, the passing game, even sans Thomas, should be great.
ODDS:
The Chiefs enter the game favored by 3 points. The over/under is set at 52.5.
KC Looks For 13-1 Mark
What has anybody been able to do to stop them? The answer is nothing, and the Chiefs have been able to carve up defenses every week. Patrick Mahomes is slinging it all over the field, making corners and safeties everywhere scratch their heads. What more could you possibly want from them? Perhaps a running game?
Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been gaining big yardage totals consistently through the air but leaves a lot to be desired as a rusher. And Le’Veon Bell hasn’t done much to help. They have a good enough air game that it doesn’t bury them, but no run game this week could hurt against a great D.
We’ll see how good Mahomes can be against the NFL’s best D. Probably not as good as usual. But still pretty great.
Brees Looks to Guide NO to Win
At 10-3, it’s been a good year for Sean Payton’s guys. You would think that with all of the playoff letdowns in recent years, their confidence would drop. But, they keep coming back for more in the regular season, overcoming constant injuries to be a winning club. Their season truly begins in week 18.
There is no week 18, as it is called the Wild Card round, the postseason’s start. With Michael Thomas not in, they probably lose right away. But he does expect to be back for it, so they will be at full strength when things matter.
The defense will have to lead the win on Sunday. Playing in the late afternoon window, it will be viewed very rarely on Red Zone. All eyes on them.
KC Improves to 13-1 Now
Just win, baby. The words of the late, great Al Davis apply to the rival Chiefs this year. They will down the Saints, keeping it rolling.
