Mid-Season Poker Tour started its 12th season with a big event at the Venetian in Las Vegas. The popular poker tournament will return once again in January, as players will be able to participate in the $1,100 buy-in Main Event at Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood, Iowa.
This casino is located near Sioux Falls in South Dakota, so players from that state are welcome to join the $200,000-guarantee poker tournament, which will last until January 24th.
If paying $1,100 seems like too much for you at the moment, you can always take part in one of the $250 satellites that will reward sports for the Main Event.
Speaking of Main Event, it will feature two starting flights. The first one (Day 1a) will take place on Friday, January 22nd, at 3 pm. On the other hand, Day 1b will happen one day later at the same time (January 23rd at 3 pm). All players who manage to make it past Day 1 will meet for Day 2 on Sunday, January 24th, to determine the tournament winner.
The tournament will have to perform pretty well to break the record of the last MSPT Main Event at Grand Falls last August. That tournament came after a lengthy lockdown, and players were eager to play some live poker in actual poker rooms.
The tournament also required a $1,100 buy-in fee, but that didn’t stop a total of 518 entrants from making the record (the previous record was 238 entrants set in 2015). That was also the biggest major poker tournament in the history of Iowa.
The August event was won by Mark Collins, a player from St. Louis who works as a system administrator. He emerged at the top, winning a total of $107,706.
That was also his second MSPT title. His first one was during Season 9 of MSPT when he managed to win $102,075 at Canterbury Park.
Satellites Overview
Satellites are already underway as we’re writing this, and if you’re interested in taking part in the Main Event at Grand Falls Casino, you can still catch some of them and get an entry for a smaller fee.
The first satellite will be on Wednesday at 6 pm in the poker room, and it will cost $250, with a starting stack of 15,000. Another two following the same format will take place one day after that. One of them will be at noon and the other one at 6 pm.
Players who arrive on Friday will also be able to take place in a satellite tournament, which will take place at 10 am. The last one is available on Saturday at 10 am as well. All tournaments starting Friday will occur in the Event Center of the resort rather than the poker room.
