The Pistons are set to face the Lakers in a contest that is expected to be extremely one-sided. Detroit has not been very good this year, even though a few guys have played far better than expected. The team has a lot of work to do in order to improve, and it is clear that they do not have much of a direction.
The losses have piled up, but on the bright side, Jerami Grant has looked like an All-Star in his first year with the team. Who would have thought that Blake Griffin would struggle to the point of being sometimes unplayable, while a guy like Grant could be carrying the team? The injury to Killian Hayes is a killer for his development, but there are plenty of rookies getting good experience here.
The Lakers are heavy favorites, as will be written below, and it is no surprise. They have got the size edge here and have been playing very good basketball. Talen Horton-Tucker is back to being in the rotation, and he is looked very good. On a team comprised mostly of older guys, it is good to see the young man playing such good basketball. His future is very bright.
ODDS:
The spread for this game is set at Lakers -14. The over/under is 217.5 points.
Pistons Seeking an Upset
After getting their doors blown off by the Suns last night, the Pistons should be fortunate to have another opportunity to play so quickly after. The team has not been too great this year, though they have a few surprise wins. The game will be one where LeBron and AD could very well run amuck, or perhaps the role players go crazy for those Lakers.
Jerami Grant is going to be asked to do a lot of the heavy lifting, and for good measure. He has proven to be a tough matchup for most teams’ top defenders, averaging close to 24 points per game on the year. What an increase from his years in Denver, Philly, and OKC. Grant is a building block for a team hoping to improve in the offseason.
Can Mason Plumlee hold his own out there today? Let’s find out.
Lakers Looking to Improve to 18-6
The Lakers have been very good to start the year, going 17-6 through the first 23 games. Would you believe that they do not have the best record in the West? That belongs to the Utah Jazz, now sitting at 18-5, winners of 14 out of their past 15. The Lakers will likely get the win here, though.
KCP is a player to watch for the Lakers tonight, as he had spent several years in Detroit prior to heading to LA. He can shoot the lights out on any given night and is also due for a breakout game. Alex Caruso should also be expected to contribute positively. And Montrezl Harrell will be looking to attack Isaiah Stewart.
Lakers Win by Two Touchdowns
LA will cover the spread tonight, as Detroit will be leaving Staples Center with a juicy loss.
