Here we go! The Milwaukee Bucks has a must-win game in front of them as they play Game 2 in Brooklyn against the Nets. They only lost the opener by eight, but the game was decided by the end of the third quarter. Some poor rotational choices by Mike Budenholzer, combined with Kevin Durant’s run of dominance, were too much to overcome. Time to adjust and move forward.
The Bucks will certainly have a shot to win this game. They have enough talent and defensive ability to hang with any team. Keep in mind, they beat Brooklyn twice in a three-day span during the regular season, so this is not impossible for them to pull off. 0-1 is nothing, but should they fall short in the series, wholesale changes may well be made to the coaching staff.
For the Nets, they are without James Harden again. He logged 43 seconds in game 1 before heading to the locker room. The hamstring issue is something serious, as he will have to miss another 48 minutes of court time. The team is still well-off with their dynamic duo of Kyrie Irving and KD, but it’s hard not to be at full strength at this juncture.
The winner of this game will carry momentum into Milwaukee.
ODDS
The spread for Game 2 is very tight. It’s set at BKN -1.5, while the over/under is 234 points.
Bucks Seek Key Victory
Down 0-1, the Bucks have to show the Nets something. They need to remind them to fear the deer, which has long been the slogan for Milwaukee’s basketball team. If they are unable to do that and play a great game today, the series will not look good. When they lost to the Toronto Raptors in 2019 in the Eastern Conference Finals, they had gone up 2-0 before blowing it.
Going down 0-2 to a team of Brooklyn’s caliber is nightmare fuel. Reigning two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo played a nearly perfect opener. The issue, though, is that Khris Middleton shot just 6-23. Bryn Forbes was invisible after outscoring Jimmy Butler in the last round. They need those guys to step in and make more shots from the floor.
PJ Tucker in the starting lineup is a boost for the defense but takes a bit of scoring out of the lineup. A win will happen by keeping KD from going off.
Nets Seeking 2-0 Lead
A win here, and the Nets are two wins from the conference finals. You have to go back to 2003 to find the last time the franchise made it that far. While still playing in NJ, they made back-to-back Finals trips, though they were handled easily by the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Even with Harden out, they have two superstars. There is so much talent here, and they should not be overly worried about anything in particular. Joe Harris is pouring in triples. Mike James is proving himself as a scorer off the pine. The roster is very solid.
If Brooklyn wants a win, they need to run up the score and not let Milwaukee hang around.
NETS WIN, GO UP 2-0
Brooklyn will win a tight Game 2, and they are halfway to ending it.
