The Los Angeles Clippers are on their last legs, and the Phoenix Suns know it. Chris Paul has never made the NBA Finals. But one more win and LA is gone, and the Suns are off to the final series of the postseason. It isn’t over yet, but a few wrong moves being made could make it all unravel. Let’s see if that actually happens or if a game 6 will be required.
The Clippers has relied heavily on Paul George in Kawhi Leonard’s absence. And he has been missing shots from all over, and all the clutch free throws have come off the rim as misses. For all that he does well scoring and rebounding, some things with his game are going to have to get better.
Phoenix lost the first game CP3 played in the series but got their bounce back. An 84-80 final score in the modern NBA is very unexpected, but it’s what happened. For all the good Phoenix does, they have their flaws as well. No team is perfect out there, and it’s known. Devin Booker finally came through when the team needed him, and DeAndre Ayton was an absolute beast in the paint.
Is the loss of Kawhi going to be too much to overcome for these Clippers? Only one way to find out. Watch the game.
ODDS
The game 5 spread is set at PHX -5.5. The over/under is sitting at 218 points.
Clippers Trying to Save Season
Prior to this year, LA had never won more than seven games in a single NBA playoff. And that’s stretching back more than 50 years. But now, a win in the Western Conference Finals has marked it as a historic year for the franchise. With a lot expected to change this summer, though, around the league, it would be a shame to see the team bow out in just five games.
They have plenty of talent, young and old, but Phoenix’s defense has been so good. Clippers coach Ty Lue has constantly shifted his lineups, but now they are on the brink. This is very much unlike the turmoil faced in the first two rounds. Phoenix is the toughest test yet.
To claim the win, they will need PG to score 30+ points and for the defense to constantly force turnovers.
Suns Try to Punch Ticket to Finals
One more win, and the Suns are off to the championship. Just like that, no gimmicks or anything. It has been a long time since the franchise has sniffed the finals and been a lifetime without a title. They have never won it all, so this could be the year it ends.
The Booker/Paul pairing has worked beautifully together. Just like the Jae Crowder and Mikal Bridges combo at the forward spots. Ayton is doing all the grunt work at center. The five-man unit plays wonderfully. And best of all, they are finally at full strength. Abdel Nader logged the game 4 minutes.
They will win by making the non-PG Clippers beat them (again), winning the 3-point game, and cleaning the glass.
Not Over Yet
LA will get the win and extend the series for at least one more game.
