Ohio State is set to play host to Oregon this weekend in an electric game. Both squads opened up 2021 with a win in a game where the defense wasn’t too hot. OSU allowed Minnesota to score 31 points, while the Ducks just escaped Fresno State with a 31-24 final. And now, the real test begins for Oregon as they face the mighty Buckeyes.
The Ducks are coming off a year in which they struggled, finishing below .500 at 4-5. But now it’s a new season, and they are 1-0, and they have a chance to set the tone for an electric year. Not many folks will pencil them as winners here, but they have to believe in themselves. The offense is going to have to be incredible, but hey, anything can happen.
For the Buckeyes, look for C.J. Stroud to be looking to sling it all over the field. He is Justin Fields’ successor, which is no small task. If he wants to prove that he belongs as a QB1 and have a possible NFL future, another big game is going to be on the docket. Every week he suits up for this team, there is immense pressure to find success.
Betting Odds & Lines
Saturday night’s spread is set at OSU -14.5. The over/under is sitting at 63.5 points. The OSU moneyline is -650, while Oregon’s is +450.
Ducks Seek Monumental Upset
With Anthony Brown under center, Oregon beat Fresno State 31-24 in their opener. The next game is so much more difficult, but they believe they can do this. No team is perfect every week all the time, as the games are not played on paper or just decided based on what betters say. It has to be 60 minutes of hard-nosed effort.
Brown was 15-24, throwing for 172 yards and a TD last week. CJ Verdell had 18-74-1, Brown 16-56-1, and they got a 13-64-1 line from Travis Dye. All three guys ran it in once and will need to continue to pound it. The team needs as much scoring as possible.
It is going to ultimately boil down not to the Ducks D, but their red zone O. Can they put together big drives?
OSU Seeks Big Win
Buckeyes nation is definitely licking their chops this weekend. Even facing a nationally-ranked foe, one of only two on their schedule this year, nothing will come easy. The oddsmakers believe Ohio State will win big, but they are going to need to back their effort up.
Miyan Williams rattled off 125 rushing yards on just nine carries last week, proving himself as an effective RB1 ahead of Master Teague. And C.J. Stroud only completed 13 passes but had 294 yards and four touchdowns, to just one interception. He was slinging the ball all over the field.
Chris Olaye had 4-117-2, hauling in a few long balls. Look for their defense to try and stomp all over the Ducks, too.
Buckeyes by Three Scores
OSU will get the win and keep things rolling in the early season.
