Week 2 of the NFL season is here, and the New Orleans Saints are traveling to Carolina to face their divisional rival, Carolina Panthers. Both clubs were able to start the season with a win, and the Panthers W had to feel very sweet for their new QB. Sam Darnold knocked off his old Jets teammates in guiding his new squad to a 1-0 beginning.
For a team with a lot of questions to answer after a disappointing 2020 year, it was nice to see Carolina start off with a win. And it’s truly wild how much of a difference a fully healthy Christian McCaffrey makes for this team. He and DJ Moore are a tremendous duo in the offense and are utilized to perfection.
As for the Saints, they are still operating without a home base. They had to play a “home” game in Jacksonville last weekend. On the bright side, they did spank Aaron Rodgers and the Packers by a 38-3 final score in a game that was never close. Any fantasy owners with GB players are probably feeling betrayed after how that one went down.
And the winner of this game will claim a 2-0 record to open the year. The loser will understand that improvements need to be made.
Betting Odds & Lines
Sunday’s spread is currently set at NO -3.5. The over/under is 44.5 points. The Saints moneyline is -185, while Carolina’s is +157.
Saints Seeking 2-0 Start
Nobody could have written a better start to the Saints season if they tried. A 35-point win against Aaron Rodgers and a complete team effort across the board. Jameis Winston throwing five TD passes in his first start, while everybody else played pretty flawlessly. Now, they have a chance at a 2-0 start.
There was a little uncertainty as to the level of play they’d be at sans Drew Brees, but they already proved a season ago that they could win without him. Now, as we see, they are thinking bigger picture. NO hasn’t been to a Super Bowl since winning it all in 2009. They’d probably like to get back there.
But for now, all of the focus remains on knocking the Panthers off.
Carolina Looking for 2-0 Record
After a strong showing in the win over the Jets in week 1, Carolina’s week 2 opponent is a wee bit tougher. The Saints won their first game 38-3, whereas the Panthers got their victory by a 20-16 tally. So, the offense will need to put some more points on the board if they hope to win one for the home fans.
Sam Darnold looked great in his team debut and will hope that the magic can carry over for another week. It’s got to help that he has his old pal Robby Anderson to throw the ball to. There is a lot of talent within the organization, and the top players will try and stay hot.
Saints Win
The game will be pretty close, but New Orleans will be the victors when all is said and done.
