The Chargers head to KC for an early divisional battle with the Chiefs on Sunday that will have everybody’s attention. Most folks probably bet on each of these teams to win last week, but each took a loss in a bit of a surprising fashion. Now, a 1-2 start awaits the loser.
The Bolts failed to beat the Cowboys, who had an offense which overpowered their own. Justin Herbert is looking great, though, and with a loss like that, a lesson can be learned. The team loses a lot of close games, and it has been a trend for years, but they can put it behind them and look ahead. A win against KC would let the league know that they aren’t to be messed with.
As for the Chiefs, they lost a stunner to the Ravens in what was probably the game of the year so far. They had no answer for Lamar Jackson while also committing two ugly second-half turnovers. At the end of the day, they are the 2X reigning AFC Champs, and nobody can take that away from them. But, a loss to L.A. might show some weakness, having lost to the Ravens in that last game.
Betting Odds & Lines
The spread for the game is currently set at KC -7. The over/under is 54.5 points. The KC moneyline is -301, and the L.A. moneyline is +247.
Bolt Up?
The Chargers will have their hands full on Sunday but could well pull the upset off. They have an offense good enough to contend with any team in the NFL, and they have shown that through the first two weeks. As they now face what could be their tallest task of the year, a win is all they can think about. A 1-2 start would place them behind the 8-ball.
Disappointing defeats have plagued L.A. for years, and it has kept them out of the playoffs. In year two, under Herbert, they want to change the narrative. With guys like Keenan Allen and Mike Williams to throw to, there is no lack of weapons. Plus, Austin Ekeler adds a lot to the backfield.
But, can the D stop Mahomes?
KC Seeking 2-1 Record
Nobody likes to lose a game, let alone in primetime. So, now back out of the spotlight, a 1:00 game could be just what the Chiefs need. They will not have it easy against the Chargers, but they can certainly get a win and move back over .500.
Just like the past two years, even though they made the SB, the run game looks bad. KC has almost none, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s fumble cost them the game on Sunday. The Chiefs were in the midst of a likely game-winning drive, but the turnover ended it for them.
Mahomes has the arm strength a lot of QB’s would die for. He has the ability to sidearm the ball and sling it at wonky angles. And he is ready to cook.
KC Wins
The Chargers will take the loss and fall to 1-2. Chiefs win.
