Seattle wasn’t supposed to be 2-3. Pittsburgh was also not expected to be 2-3 through five games. But here we are, and they will be going head-to-head, one team falling to the six-game start that nobody believed to be possible before the year began. And whoever it is, they will be facing a very tough climb back into relevance and their own conference playoff picture.
Seattle is dealing with the loss of their starting QB Russell Wilson, who has rarely missed time since entering the league since 2012. And on top of that, RB1 Chris Carson is not in the lineup. The team now turns to Geno Smith, who has been irrelevant since he left the Jets. He has barely been in games, so hopefully, all of the experience he had has manifested into readiness.
As for Pittsburgh, they will likely find their next franchise QB in the draft. For now, the only choice is to ride with Ben Roethlisberger. He has been less average, but he did get it done last week to lift his team back into the win column for the first time since week 1. At last place in the AFC North, these guys cannot afford a loss.
There are injuries and obvious holes in the lineups for both teams. Whoever wants it more will get it. It is as simple as that.
Betting Odds & Lines
The spread for Sunday night is set at PIT -5. The over/under is 43 points. The SEA moneyline is +180, and the latter is PIT -277.
Seattle Seeks Return to .500
The Seahawks may as well be playing for their season on Sunday. Like the Packers before them, games have had to be won without their superstar QB. Aaron Rodgers came back late in the year a number of seasons ago and could not get his team to the playoffs. It is on the back of Geno Smith that this team has to giddy-up.
If Seattle takes the loss to the Steelers, there is no coming back. Nobody expected them to be 2-3, or down a QB and an RB. Look for Alex Collins to have a big receiving game out of the backfield and cross the plane.
And if they can score 25+ points, they win.
Ben Seeks to Guide His Team to Key Win
A victory could get the Steelers right back to .500. Baltimore is 4-1, while Cincy and Cleveland are both 3-2. The Browns could be facing a tough game with Nick Chubb out and going against the final undefeated team in the league. The Bengals never have it easy.
4-1 Baltimore has the 4-1 Chargers. So, a win for the Steelers could potentially get them to within a single game of first place. They could also win and remain in last. This is such an unpredictable league.
This is the week Najee Harris will finally break out. Seattle’s soft D will not hold up.
Pittsburgh Wins
The Steelers will get a key win and improve to 3-3.
