It’s a battle of Northeast teams as the 76ers head to MSG to play against the Knicks on Tuesday. Both clubs look very different than they did at the end of last season, for better or worse. And at 2-1, they have been pretty good through the first three games of the season. Let’s flash ahead now to Game 4.
The 76ers have been dealing with Ben Simmons drama, and it does not appear as if he is going to be playing for them anytime soon. All the while, potential trade partners probably see everything unfolding the way it is as a massive red flag, that his heart is just not in the game.
They have all the tools to still win games, but a trip to the finals will not happen without Ben or a good haul.
As for the Knicks, they added Evan Fournier and Kemba Walker from Boston in the offseason. Both guys offer a lot of value but might just be better placeholders than Reggie Bullock and Elfrid Payton at the end of the day. Because Tom Thibodeau is still using Alec Burks and Derrick Rose in big roles off the bench, both guys closing out the team’s first loss against Orlando.
In this game, it will be a lot of fun to see Mitchell Robinson looking to slow down Joel Embiid.
Betting Odds & Lines
The spread for the game is set at NYK -1. The over/under is 217.5 points. The PHI moneyline is -105; the NYK moneyline is -119.
Sixers Seeking Another Key Win
At 2-1 to start the year, it is safe to say Philly has put their playoff blunder in the past. And they are getting a lot out of Seth Curry, who scored 23 points in the first quarter alone in the team’s last game, looking just like his superstar brother out there.
The 76ers are not equipped for a deep playoff run but are still certainly going to be good enough to finish inside the top six in the East for a guaranteed spot. Joel Embiid is one of the best bigs in the game, no doubt.
We’ll see how the team’s bench performs, as it will go a long way toward trying to secure them a win.
New York Aiming for Statement
The Knicks are 2-1 and trying to get back to their winning ways after Cole Anthony destroyed them a few nights ago. The good news is that the season is still young. The bad news is that Julius Randle kind of still seems to be in playoff mode, struggling a bit.
The team now has an impressive depth chart, showing they are able to survive without Nerlens Noel. They used Jericho Sims for two games while they awaited Taj Gibson’s return. And it is showing just how valuable Robinson is for them in the middle.
Between Randle, Kemba, Fournier, Burks, and Barrett, they have plenty of talent. And Immanuel Quickley and Obi Toppin are prone to occasional breakout games.
They need to watch Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
Knicks Win!
Philly will lose a close one as the Knicks faithful provide the background noise in a win.
