The ACC is matching up a pair of teams on Saturday evening that are sitting atop the conference standings as the Miami Hurricanes are on the road to Durham, N.C., to take on the Duke Blue Devils in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on ACC Network.
The Hurricanes are (12-3, 4-0) and have won eight consecutive games and four straight conference games for the first time since the 12-13 season. A late rally helped the Canes secure a win over Syracuse on Wednesday 88-87.
The No. 2 Duke Blue Devils are (12-1, 2-0) and extended their winning streak to five games with a win over the visiting Yellow Jackets on Tuesday night. The Blue Devils are heavy favorites in this contest, but this is a game they can’t take lightly.
Miami Hurricanes Betting Preview
In the win against Syracuse, Miami fell down as much as 18 points in the first half and went into halftime down 14 trailing the Orange 44-30. Coming out to start the second half, the Canes hit on their first six three-point attempts after struggling on 4/14 shooting in the first half of this contest.
Syracuse was able to shoot an efficient 53% from the three-point line going 17/32, but the Canes were able to force them into a season-high 19 turnovers. The Cuse cut into the deficit late in the game, hitting on three three-point shots in the final seconds to make the score a one-point loss.
The Orange are led by Senior guard Kameron McGusty. He has provided the team with a little bit of everything on the season, putting up 18.3 points with 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals, and a little over a steal and a half per game.
McGusty has been tough to stop from the outside, shooting 40% from the three-point line, and he has been good when he has gotten to the free-throw line making 84% of his attempts. McGusty has scored in double figures in 14 out of his last 15 games.
In the win over Syracuse, the senior guard finished with 19 points, five rebounds, and five assists with three steals.
Duke Blue Devils Preview
On Tuesday night, the Blue Devils were able to come away with a 69-57 win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, but they had to scrap their way to a victory. Some drama found the Blue Devils again as Coach K had a confrontation with the star guard from Georgia Tech, who said something to the Blue Devil sideline during a timeout call.
Duke is led by freshman phenom Paolo Banchero who has been every bit as advertised since putting on a Duke uniform. On the season, the future No. 1 pick has averages of 17.1 points with 7.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He has been in double figures in all 13 games for Duke.
Against the Yellow Jackets, Banchero pulled in his second double-double of the season, coming away with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and dishing out four assists.
Thanks to his efforts and frontcourt mate Mark Wiliams, Duke won the rebounding battle 48-35. That made up for the season’s worst shooting night as the Blue Devils were 19/51 for the game, but they were coming off a 12 day Covid-19 pause.
Duke is 7th in the country in KenPom’s adjusted offensive efficiency with 116.9 points per 100 possessions. The Canes are 214th in their defensive efficiency at a 104.3 mark.
Betting Prediction
The Blue Devils are 10-0 at home this season with a huge margin of victory at 25.6 points. Last season was a tough one for the Blue Devils as they missed the tournament and were in the middle of the pack in the ACC. Their struggles helped the Canes end their four-game losing streak as they knocked off the Blue Devils 77-75.
The Blue Devils are 14.5 point home favorites in this ACC conference matchup, with the total set at 153.5 points. Look for the Blue Devils to exploit the shaky defense of the Hurricanes and come away with their third win in conference play.
Prediction: Duke -14.5 (-110)
