Gavin Munroe Leads on the 2022 WSOP Day 38 After the Main Event’s Day 2abc

Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas held the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Event No. 70:$10,000 Main Event World Championship’s Day 2abc. It had 2,641 entrants who resumed playing after the break, hoping to proceed to Day 3.

Gavin Monroe was the stack leader after the day’s five levels of play. He amassed 1,067,500 chips after getting several wins in the WSOP circuit.

The poker pro won his first WSOP Circuit ring at the $1,700 Main Event in Tunica, Mississippi. He got the largest score in his professional poker career after cashing more than $158,000.

Munroe said after the event that it was his first Main Event to sign up. He had many kings and eliminated three opponents. The player was the only finalist to have a seven-figure stack, as Karim Rebei followed him with 932,000 chips.

This was Rebei’s first time competing in the Main Event, and was thrilled to be at the top of the chips standing. He made a bluff against Jason Koon.

The Day’s Action

Phil Hellmuth wore a Darth Vader costume as he made his appearance. He got cheers and boos in the ballroom. But, the poker legend lasted slightly more than an hour in the event as he last won it in 1989.

Shawn Smith collected most of his chips after making a runner-runner straight against his pocket kings. Jeff Frerichs’ got Hellmuth’s remaining stack after he got a tow-outer on the river.

Several WSOP Main Events winners like Qui Nguyen, Martin Jacobson, and Joe Cada got eliminated on Day 2. Other casualties included Andrew Lichtenberger, Justin Bonomo, Kevin Martin, Ben Heath, and Stephen Chidwick. Still, the evening had some amazing storylines.

Ryan Riess was determined to win his second Main Event after winning the 2013 Main Event. He had 275,500 chips late on Day 2 as John Cynn had 234,000 chips and Joe McKeehen had 118,000 chips.

Kelly Minkin got more chips fast early on Day 2abc. She collected more than 300,000 chips a few minutes after the first level began and ended the day with 363,000 chips.

Minkin carefully controlled her stack throughout the day despite being seven months pregnant. She said that the day’s progress pleased her as her recent levels haven’t been a piece of cake.

The day’s late registration window had 148 new entries, thus increasing the championship’s total entries to 8,209. It had five more levels played as about 1,300 entrants proceeded to Day 3, and all of them would return at 11 a.m. on July 9th; joining players would qualify through Day 2d.
