The Cardroom Consultant for leading online poker site wants to ensure that every poker player’s voice is heard by U.S. lawmakers. UltimateBet’s Annie Duke is headed to Washington for National Poker Week. The goal of the weeklong event, put on by the Poker Players Alliance, is to send a message to lawmakers that their constituents support poker and legislation to regulate and license the game.
“We all have a right to play poker and taking away that right sets a dangerous precedent that no American should stand for,†stated Duke. “There’s a lot of work to do to ensure that poker players and the game get the respect they deserve but we’re getting there.â€Â
It is estimated that more than 10 million Americans play poker online, many of whom play at UltimateBet.com. A number of UltimateBet players have joined the Poker Players Alliance to ensure that their voices are heard and that their rights are protected.
Annie Duke, along with several big-name poker players, will deliver a petition to President Obama asking for his support in the licensing and regulation of online poker.
Last year, Annie Duke testified before the House Judiciary Committee hearing on online gaming. Duke spoke on behalf of The Poker Players Alliance, a nonprofit membership organization comprised of poker players and enthusiasts from around the United States who have joined together to speak with one voice to promote the game and ensure its integrity.
National Poker Week takes place in Washington from July 19 – 25. Full details on Annie Duke’s efforts are available on pokerplayersalliance.org.
