It’s another primetime game for the Indianapolis Colts, who visit the Dallas Cowboys at 8:20 p.m. ET Sunday at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on short rest.
The Colts (4-7-1) lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, 24-17, for their fifth loss in their last six games. The Cowboys (8-3) have won four of their last five games.
The Cowboys are favored by 10.5 points with an over/under of 44 points. The Cowboys are -500 on the moneyline, while the Colts are +375.
Colts reeling in despair
Even a mediocre offense would have the Colts in playoff contention in the AFC. They made a deal to bring in Matt Ryan, who was benched midway through the season. Then came the successive firings of offensive coordinator Marcus Brady and coach Frank Reich.
The Colts are 30th in scoring 15.8 points per game and 26th with 318.8 yards of offense. They rank 25th in rushing at 99.7 yards per game despite having Jonathan Taylor, one of the best running backs in football.
They also have 21 turnovers, the worst rate in the league, and an otherwise solid defense only has ten takeaways, the fifth-worst rate in the NFL.
Defensively, the Colts are fifth in holding teams to 308.9 yards per game and 190.6 passing yards per game. Teams have fared well on the ground, ranking 17th in rush defense at 118.3 yards per game. The Colts are 11th in allowing 20.3 points per game.
Ryan figures to garner another start against the best pass defense in football.
Cowboys look to stay strong
The Cowboys are 8-3 regardless of who is starting at QB – Cooper Rush spelled Dak Prescott when the typical starter was hurt. The offense has fared well with great weapons like CeeDee Lamb, Ezekiel Elliott, and Tony Pollard leading the way.
The Cowboys are seventh in scoring 25.4 points per game and seventh in rushing, with 139.2 yards on the ground per game. They are 13th in total offense at 353.3 yards per game and 20th passing at 214.1 yards through the air per game.
They are tied for fifth with 11 giveaways. Defensively they are tied for eighth with 16 takeaways.
The Cowboys’ defense is second in scoring, allowing 17.0 points per game, and are the top team against the pass, holding teams to 177.7 yards passing per game. They are, however, 24th in allowing 131.9 yards rushing per game.
Colts/Cowboys Betting Prediction
If the Colts can get Taylor going on the ground and protect the football, they’ll give themselves a chance. They played better against the lowly Raiders in Jeff Saturday’s coaching debut and lost to the Eagles by one. But this figures to be a tall order.
Indy is 5-7 against the spread and 3-9 on over/unders. Dallas is 7-4 against the spread and 4-6-1 on over/unders. The public is split 51% of the bet on the Cowboys.
We’ll take Colts +10.5.
