A new chapter in the NFC West has unfolded with the inaugural start of one Brock Purdy on the San Francisco 49ers.
He will be leading this team on the road against the division-rival Seattle Seahawks, who have spent the last couple of weeks coming apart at the seams.
Purdy put on a show against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers, scoring 35 unanswered points to open the game and absolutely utilizing every single weapon at his disposal.
Moving forward, the 49ers seem to be in good enough hands to continue to let their blue chippers dominate the game. Their defense seems to be able to take over whenever they want to.
Seattle is going to have their hands full in this one, as they have been unable to put together a good stretch of quarters for a while now.
It comes as no surprise that the 49ers are the road favorites ahead of this game at -3.5 over the Seahawks.
Finding new ways to let McCaffrey carry this team
After a high-ankle sprain to Deebo Samuel, the 49ers utilized a next-man-up mentality and let Christian McCaffrey see a much higher usage than normal.
It seemed like just about every play he was involved in some form or another, and it really relieved the pressure off of Purdy in his first NFL start.
This formula should work wonders against a weak Seattle run defense. The Seahawks are one of the worst in the league, setting McCaffrey up for the chance at a massive performance in this game.
The defense is what makes this team special, and every level of the 49ers’ defense is able to impact the game in ways that didn’t even seem possible.
Can the Seahawks find a way to get back on track?
After serving as one of the darling stories in the first half of the regular season, the Seahawks have fallen off a bit in some of their more recent games.
It isn’t much better coming up on short rest against arguably the best team in the conference. McCaffrey creates a matchup nightmare for the Seahawks, and they will need to make it their top goal to figure out how to stop him.
With Geno Smith coming on this year, the Seahawks will have to hope he bounces back in this game. It doesn’t bode well for them to already be considered an underdog.
49ers at Seahawks Betting Prediction
These two teams have switched places over the course of the regular season, and now the 49ers look like a perennial contender in the NFC.
The Seahawks will have their hands full trying to game plan around Brock Purdy and stopping McCaffrey, but having the 12th man behind can give them a chance.
It is tempting to go for the underdog here, but the 49ers are too good to not be taken seriously. Roll with the magic of Purdy against Seattle and take San Francisco at -3.5 in this game.
