A beautiful reward for a couple of average and lower-tier college football teams is a trip to the Bahamas. Both the Miami Ohio Redhawks and UAB Blazers enter the Bahamas Bowl at 6-6. The winner will clinch a winning season, so plenty is at stake at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Thomas A. Robinson Stadium.
The Blazers are favored by 11 points with an over/under of 45 points. The Redhawks are +320 on the moneyline, while the Blazers are -425. It is the first meeting between the two programs.
Redhawks look to keep rolling
Miami Ohio closed its season by winning three of its final four games, including the finale against Ball State 18-17 to secure bowl eligibility and a trip to the Bahamas.
The low point total is because of the pitiful Redhawks offense. They are 113th in the country at scoring 20.3 points per game and were 122nd in gaining 309.3 yards of offense per game. That includes ranking 121st in passing for 165.8 yards per game. They were, however, 76th in rushing at 143.4 yards per game.
Defensively they were solid, though. The Redhawks were 35th in holding teams to 22.5 points per game and 62nd in allowing 371.7 yards per game. That includes ranking 40th against the rush in allowing 135.8 yards per game. But they were 85th against the pass in allowing 235.9 yards per game.
Blazers look to have bigger strength
UAB has one of the top rushing offenses in the country and look to attack the Redhawks’ biggest strength. The Blazers were 54th in scoring 30.6 points per game and 31st in gaining 442.3 yards of offense per game. They were dominant on the ground, ranking fifth in gaining 243.2 of those yards by rushing.
Defensively, the Blazers were fairly solid. They ranked 40th in allowing 23.4 points per game and 56th in holding teams to 368 yards of offense per game. However, one concern is they were 95th against the run in allowing 171.2 yards rushing per game, but were 24th in allowing 196.8 yards passing per game.
Redhawks/Blazers Betting Prediction
This is going to be a boring bowl game for those who aren’t fans of either team, but we know people will watch as it is the first one. If fans like running the football, this is the game for them as the Blazers will look to go against the Redhawks’ best element. Conversely, the Redhawks are stronger on the run and hope to attack the weakest part of this year’s Blazers team.
Public betting data shows 54% of fans think UAB will cover the 11 points, and another 69% of public bets think the point total will go over. Miami Ohio was 5-7 against the spread and 3-7 on over/unders, while UAB was 4-8 against the spread and 6-6 on over/unders.
We’ll take Miami Ohio +11 and under 45.
