The Anaheim Ducks will travel to Vancouver on Wednesday night to take on the Vancouver Canucks in what’s expected to be one of the more interesting games of the day. While it might not be the most interesting for the right reasons, as Anaheim and Vancouver are arguably the two worst teams in the Western Conference this season.
Vancouver sits at 26-32-5 with 57 points on the season. Anaheim, on the other hand, sits at 21-35-8 and 50 points on the year. While Vancouver has struggled this season, they’re playing .500 hockey in their last 10, which is much better than what they’ve done for most of the season.
Canucks Need to Replicate Recent Success
Despite Vancouver not playing well this season, the books believe that this is their game to win. They come into this one at -215 on the moneyline and -1.5 on the puck line for +115 odds. A -215 favorite is somewhat telling here and while playing the juice might not always be the best idea, this might not be a bad time to sip on it a bit.
If a team has struggled this much and the line is what it is, the books typically see something that the public might not.
Vancouver has had two great wins in their last two games, beating the Nashville Predators 4-3 and knicking off the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1. If they can replicate those two games, they should find a way to win this one.
When they’re at their best, they find ways to put the puck in the back of the net. At their worst, they typically struggle to score goals.
Winnable Game for Anaheim
With the Anaheim Ducks being arguably the worst team in the NHL this season, they don’t have much to play for at this point of the season. This could mean that they don’t even want to win games to get a better pick in the NHL Draft. They’re just 4-4-2 in their last 10 as well, so it’s not like they’re playing any better right now than they’ve been throughout the earlier stages of the season.
The most telling part of the Ducks’ season is the fact that they’re a -99 differential on the season. That’s by far the worst in hockey this season. Most teams can keep the puck out of the back of the net and not score, or vice versa, but they simply haven’t done a thing that shows they can even be above average this season.
It’s tough to bet on a team that’s nearly losing by more than 1.5 goals per game.
Anaheim Ducks vs Vancouver Canucks Prediction
It’s never a safe bet to put money on the Vancouver Canucks because of their inability to get much going most nights, but Wednesday night offers a different view. The Canucks have simply been the much better team over the Ducks this season, and because of that, taking them to win in regulation doesn’t seem like a bad bet.
You can get those odds at -135, which is much better than the juice you’d have to play at -215. Either way, the Canucks -215 can be a nice parlay piece if you like a second game.
