We have one of the top NHL games of the week on Thursday night as the Dallas Stars will travel to Edmonton and take on the Edmonton Oilers. Both teams come into this one as two of the top teams in the NHL this season, as Dallas has 87 points and the Oilers have 82. Funny enough, the Stars could have plenty of more points if they found ways to close games.
This could be a major call for concern against a team like Edmonton, as the Oilers typically find a way to scramble back and win games. Dallas is going to be coming into this one, however, winning seven of their last 10 games.
That doesn’t mean much to the books in this one, as the Oilers are going to be coming in at -135 on the moneyline and -1.5 on the puck line for +180 odds.
Can Dallas Stay Hot?
When looking at what the Dallas Stars have done the season, it’s easy to see why people do believe that this team does have a legitimate chance of winning a Stanley Cup. It’s not going to be an easy task for them as they do have games where they simply just can’t get the job done.
They currently have +1500 odds to win the Stanley Cup, which ranks them just around the top 10. The Western Conference is a bit weaker than the Eastern Conference this season, so they do have a chance of getting the job done if things do go their way.
When Dallas is at their best, goalie Jake Oettinger is keeping the puck out of the net at an elite level. Dallas also has games where they can score goals better than anybody in the NHL, and that’s been evident throughout their past six games. In their past six games, Dallas has games scoring 10, seven, and five goals. If they can find a way to replicate that against this tough Edmonton Oilers team, they should be able to come away with the win.
Huge Game for Edmonton
The Edmonton Oilers are one of the more interesting teams in the NHL, and we say that for a few different reasons. This team has had a few disappointing playoff appearances throughout the past few seasons, and they’re hopeful that this season might turn around.
It’s not going to be an easy task for them to do so as they typically can’t find a way to get the job done, but this team does have more than enough to get the job done when they’re at their best. When they’re at their best, Conor McDavid is playing like the undoubted best player in hockey, and even sometimes, that’s not enough.
He comes into this one playing excellent hockey on the season and is coming off a two-point game with a goal. The Oilers have now won six out of their last 10 games and are hopeful that they can even get past being just above .500.
Dallas Stars vs Edmonton Oilers Prediction
With this game being played in Edmonton, taking the Oilers does seem like the safe bet. However, jumping on the Stars here doesn’t seem like a bad idea given the fact that they can win on the road and at home.
