Every day is a good day when you get to wake up and say, “Play ball!” emphatically until October. Teams are here to try and figure out their rotations and lineups so plenty of experimenting will be happening.
Game two of this midwestern battle will come at us on Tuesday when the Chicago Cubs go on the road to take on the Cincinnati Reds.
Projected pitchers for this matchup include Hayden Wesneski for the Cubs and Luis Cessa for the Reds, both of which are making their pitching debuts for the season.
The Cubs had a rough opening to their season as they managed to beat the Brewers in their first matchup on Opening Day, but dropped the next two games after that.
Almost completely opposite to that, the Reds lost on opening day and then won their next two games against the Pirates.
Ahead of the first pitch on Tuesday, the Cubs drew the favorite on the road over the Reds at -1.5.
Chicago looking to get some firepower behind their bats
Since the Cubs famous World Series win in 2016, they haven’t experienced much success otherwise in the past couple of seasons especially.
To start this year, they are a little bit dry at the plate, and their offense hasn’t been able to get hot with many home runs.
Overall as a team, their average is okay, but certainly, they are going to want to see more from their top hitters in order to put up a fight in some of these outings.
With a chance for stormy weather forecasted on Tuesday night, the Cubs may continue their struggles in this one at the plate.
Pitching starting strong in Cincinnati
To start in their opening series against the Pirates, the Rebds were able to pitch the lights out with the most runs they gave up being five. That game wound up only being a narrow one-run defeat.
With such strong pitching available on their roster, the Reds come in favorable in this series against the Cubs who have been struggling to get hits at the plate.
That isn’t to say they have work to do on this one, but this division matchup with the Cubs favors the Reds greatly to start the year.
A little bit of rain won’t hurt their pitching efforts either, and it could very well be a rough night at the plate with the Chicago Cubs.
Cubs @ Reds Betting Prediction
The storm season is out in the Midwest in early April, and it looks like this will be a game that gets heavily affected by the inclement weather.
After a rough and tumbling game one of the series, the two teams will be back at it again and look to see if they can keep any momentum going in their division.
Chicago is going to have to find a way to get some consistent batting against this strong pitching crew that Cincinnati has going for them.
It might be too much to handle this early in the year, so roll with the Reds to take game two of this series at +1.5.
