About 10 days have already passed in the 2023 Major League Baseball season, and teams are still working to try and figure out their roster along with the new rules that were put in place.
For the nightcap, two teams will be going head-to-head under the lights when the Seattle Mariners go on the road to take on the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs have opened the season battling at an exceptional rate at just a hair over .280. This has made their run totals for the season pretty high. Despite only playing in seven games so far, they are already at 40 runs for the season.
Averaging just shy of six runs per game means the offense is clicking on all cylinders, while the Mariners offense has struggled to get going to begin this season.
The pitching matchup for the game will put Luis Castillo for the Mariners against Drew Smyly for the Cubs.
Ahead of the Monday night matchup, the Chicago Cubs will play as a home underdog as the Seattle Mariners are favored at -1.5 in Wrigley.
Pressure is on as the road favorite
While their status as a road favorite in this game has a lot to do with their starting pitcher, the Mariners are going to have to find a way to churn some offense out in this game if they want to succeed.
Eugenio Suarez is far and away their best batter so far this season, as he has seven RBIs and is batting .357.
More players are going to have to step up and try and hit some home runs to put a spark into their rotation.
Otherwise, it is up to Castillo to give up no earned runs like he did in his first start of the season.
Break out of the .500 gap in the second full week of the year
As each day goes by, the Cubs seem to take one step forward and then one step backward and can’t really get themselves out of the middle of the road.
In their most recent series against the Texans, they were able to dominate the first two matchups but then lost game three by a whopping score of 8-2.
At some point, if you are going to be a team that makes any kind of noise, the Cubs are going to have to figure out how to garner some consistency in their lineup.
Mariners @ Cubs Betting Prediction
Two teams under the bright lights in Chicago: there is absolutely nothing like it. The weather is projected to be a beautiful 60 degrees or so with a partly cloudy sky.
This will be the game the Mariners are going to go all out for with Castillo starting. The ace should be expected just as well as he did in his first start of the season.
The Cubs do have a home crowd on their side, and for that reason, it is worth taking them as the underdog in this game at +1.5.
