Late night baseball on Wednesday night pits two California-based teams against each other when the Los Angeles Dodgers are on the road to take on the San Francisco Giants.
Both teams have experienced a similar start to the season with fairly similar counting stats across the board, but the Dodgers have a pretty massive advantage in the runs scored category.
This will be game three and the final game of this series between the two teams. The opener set the tone out of the gate for the Dodgers when they were able to secure a win 9-1 over the Giants.
The projected starters for game three also favor the Dodgers, as Clayton Kershaw is set to pitch against Alex Cobb.
Kershaw, a little bit more seasoned at this point of his career, is not as much of a knockout as we have come to expect, but he certainly is not someone that anybody wants to face.
Ahead of the opening pitch on Wednesday night, the Dodgers are favored on the road in San Francisco at -1.5 runs.
Fortifying the defense for the Dodgers
In the opening batch of games this season, the Dodgers have experienced no trouble scoring in any of their matchups.
Runs have been easy to come by, and it is why they are significantly ahead of the Giants in that category compared to everything else.
What really seems to be more of the issue is their defense, but strong performances against the Giants in this series may help those stats look better than they actually are.
Time will tell whether or not this team has what it takes to make a run in the National League this season, but the Dodgers certainly have the payroll to get it done with this roster.
Bouncing back and earning respect
For the Giants’ side of things, it really is about earning the respect that they need in this league. Losing a game 9-1 in any series is a downer, and it really opens the door for criticisms.
No one, in particular, should be shouldering the blame this early in the season, but a statement win to close the series is something that could cure that hangover immediately.
Alex Cobb’s pitching has been just as good, if not even a little bit better than Kershaw this season, and a strong performance from him could make all of the difference for this matchup.
Dodgers @ Giants Betting Prediction
Game two of this series between the Dodgers and Giants was a 5-0 rout for San Francisco. The Dodgers could not get much of anything going, finishing the game with only three hits.
Deploying Kershaw in the third game of this series could be the x-factor that the Dodgers are looking for to secure another win and get out of the .500 rut of baseball.
Favored in the matchup, the Dodgers should be the pick on Wednesday night at -1.5 over the Giants. Expect them to bounce back after their loss.
