Game three of the series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds kicks off Wednesday at 5:40 PM local time with the series already tied up 1-1.
Both teams are more than a couple of games under .500 at this point of the season and have been struggling in their most recent series constantly trading wins and losses.
The starting pitcher for Wednesday’s game will be the lefty Steven Matz for the Cardinals up against Ben Lively for the Reds.
Matz has been one of the Cardinals worst starting pitchers this season and is 0-5 to begin the year with a 5.05 ERA. Could this be the one game where he finds a way to turn everything around?
On the other side, Lively for the Reds has been pretty solid but only has thrown 11 full innings this season but boasts a solid 2.45 ERA while a measly 1-2 record on the season.
If anything is for certain, it is that there is a lot of baseball left to play this year. The Cardinals find themselves favored in this matchup with the run line set at -1.5 over the Reds.
On the backs of Nolan Gorman
While the overall team offense has been pretty solid, it is highlighted entirely by Nolan Gorman in the starting rotation.
He is absolutely a focal point of their batting order, and is one of those players that the opposing team has to strategize their whole game plan around.
Currently leading the Cardinals in home runs, batting average, and runs batting in on the year, and at any given moment he can spark a rallying cry with his bat.
The Reds are going to be in trouble if he gets hot for this game, as we have already seen him have success in this series so far.
Digging themselves out of an offensive slump
While two of their last five games have gone to extra innings, the Reds are struggling to put the ball in play.
Their offense, especially when placed side-by-side against the Cardinals, has not been successful so far this year and continues to struggle from game-to-game.
Finding consistency in their lineup has been the most difficult challenge, and they are going to have to hope they find it in order to take control of this series.
They certainly have the advantage in the pitching matchup so maybe that can tip the scales in this instance.
Cardinals @ Reds Betting Preview
Ahead of the first pitch tonight, the Cardinals are favored in this matchup, as they should be.
St. Louis has been better in just about every major category you can think of this season, and their team has put up good run totals through the first two games of this series.
The Cardinals can look to win game three tonight and take the lead in the series and will do so on the backs of Nolan Gormon at -1.5 over the Reds.
