Two rivals will get together on Sunday at Fenway Park for the Sunday Night Baseball game of the week. The New York Yankees are at the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox pounded the Yankees on Friday, and then Saturday, got rained out.
After the weather clears, the two teams will play two games on Sunday. This is the night game of the day/night doubleheader. The Boston Red Sox are underdogs in this game. You can bet the Boston Red Sox at -132, with a total of 9.5 runs on Sunday.
Severino Goes for the Yankees
Luis Severino gets the start for the Yankees. This is just his sixth start of the season. He has struggled this season, with an 0-1 record and a 6.48 earned run average.
Severino has struck out 22 batters and walked ten over 25 innings this season. In his last start, Severino went 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits and six runs.
The Yankees are +33 when it comes to run differential, but a bunch of games back in the American League East. Part of that is the Tampa Bay Rays and the .689 pace they are playing at, but the other part is New York’s inability to stay hot. The Yankees are 4-6 in their last ten games.
New York is without the services of Aaron Judge, who leads the team in most offensive categories. The slugger is hitting .291 and has pounded out 19 home runs and drove in 40 runs on the season.
The Yankees hope Judge is back around the 4th of July. Anthony Rizzo is another run producer in the middle of the lineup, as he is batting .265.
Red Sox Want to Keep Bats Going
The Boston Red Sox want to keep the bats rolling as they continue this series. Boston has scored 33 runs over their last five games but won just three of them. The Boston offense has been up and down but ranks 6th in both runs scored and team batting average.
The top offensive threats for the Red Sox have been Mastaka Yoshida and Rafael Devers. Yoshida leads the team with a .309 batting average, while Devers has driven 17 out of the park and drove in a team-high 56.
James Paxton gets the start for the Red Sox. The veteran lefthander has won 2 games this season but thrown just 32 innings. Paxton has struck out 44 batters and walked 10. The 34-year-old is coming off an outing against Colorado, where he allowed just four hits and a single run over six innings.
Boston Picks up Win
The Red Sox scored a ton of runs on Friday night and looking to do so again on Sunday Night. The Yankees and Red Sox have two games tomorrow, so you never know what could happen between now and then.
But – in the end, the Red Sox offense is going to get to Luis Severino and come away with the Sunday Night Baseball win. Our bet for this game is the Boston Red Sox -132 over the New York Yankees.
