The New York Yankees will take on the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night after losing the first game of this series. New York has been derailed with injuries throughout the season, but losing to Oakland was certainly a disappointment as the Athletics entered play with just 20 wins. They need to find a way to get back on track if they want to make the playoffs this season but unfortunately, that doesn’t look like it’s going to be the case right now for the Yankees.
Can they find a way to win without their superstar outfielder Aaron Judge? Continue reading below for our Yankees vs Orioles preview.
What’s Going on Yankees?
The New York Yankees had their most disappointing loss of the season on Tuesday night and will need to play much better baseball if they’re hoping to get back on track. Only scoring one run against Oakland is inexcusable for a team that still offers one of the better lineups in baseball, even without Aaron Judge. There weren’t able to get much going and that’s why they found themselves in the position that they’re currently in.
Domingo German is going to be on the mound for the Yankees and that should be good news for them. Although he hasn’t been great since returning from injury, the Yankees know the type of stuff that he has when he’s healthy. That’s a positive sign for him that he’s finally healthy and the Yankees are hopeful that this could be his first good outing of the season. He had one decent start against the Red Sox three outings ago and if he can replicate that, the Yankees should find himself in a position to win this game.
The question for them is if they’re going to be able to do enough offensively to win games. With a lineup that still offers DJ LeMahieu, Harrison Bader, Anthony Rizzo, Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres, and others, the Yankees have no excuse to only score one run.
Oakland Should Lose If Things Stay True
The Oakland Athletics have undoubtedly been the worst team in baseball this season and that’s evident by their 21-60 record. They’re 28 games behind first place in the American League West, which is crazy to think about given that it’s not even the All-Star break yet.
Oakland hasn’t been able to get anything going on either side of the baseball throughout the first few months of the season, and that doesn’t look like it’s going to change anytime soon. Perhaps they can find a way to turn things around and be competitive, but even that doesn’t look likely at the moment. Their win against the Yankees was impressive in the first game of this three-game set and perhaps that gives them some confidence going into Game 2.
New York Yankees at Oakland A’s Betting Preview Prediction
Because this one’s going to be after a Yankees loss, it seems smart to back them to win this game. We can get them at -150 odds, and that’s a ton of value against the worst team in baseball.
