A pair of American League teams are getting together on Monday for the start of a series. The Cleveland Guardians are on the road at the Houston Astros.
The Guardians won their final game of the series on the road at the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. Cleveland is now 53-53 on the season but right in the middle of the mix in the American League Central.
Houston was beaten up Sunday by Tampa Bay. The Astros are now 59-47 on the season and also in a close race with the Texas Rangers in the American League West.
The Houston Astros are -140 in this game. Cleveland is listed at +120. The total is listed at nine runs.
Starting Pitching Matchup
Noah Syndergaard is making his first start for the Guardians. He was traded earlier this week to Cleveland and has been reinstated from the injured list.
He has not started a game since June 7th in Cincinnati. On the season, he is 1-4, with a 7.16 earned run average. Syndergaard has struck out 38 batters on the season.
The Houston Astros will send J.P. France to the mound in this game. France is 6-3 on the season, with a 2.87 earned run average. The right-hander from New Orleans has made 14 starts this season and reached 84.2 innings.
France, in his last start, went seven innings and allowed five hits and not a single earned run.
Astros Looking to Re-start Streak
The Houston Astros had won five of their last six games before dropping back-to-back games. Then, Houston came back with 17 runs on Saturday. In that win, Jeremy Pena had four RBIs, while Yainer Diaz and Jose Abreu added three more. The Astros are 10th in Major League Baseball with 506 runs scored.
Kyle Tucker is having a sensational season for the Astros this season. The outfielder is hitting .299 while crushing 18 home runs and driving in 19 runs.
Alex Bregman also has 18 home runs for the Astros as well. Houston will host Cleveland for these three games and then go on the road to the Yankees and Orioles for seven games.
Cleveland in the Mix
The Cleveland Guardians are frankly in the mix. At .500, the divisional leaders Minnesota Twins have dropped five straight games and pushed the Guardians to just ½ game back in the divisional standings.
Cleveland comes into this game 25-29 when playing on the road this season. After this, the Guardians will host the White Sox for three and then the Blue Jays for a four-game series.
Jose Ramirez is heating up for Cleveland. He hit a home run in the 5th inning and another in the 7th inning of the win on Sunday. Steven Kwan also hit a long ball in the game.
Ramirez now has 18 home runs on the season and drove in 63 runs. The Guardians used a big outing from Aaron Civale, with six strong innings, allowing just three hits and no runs.
Houston Bounces Back with a Win
The Houston Astros are going to bounce back for a win here. Noah Syndergaard will not be able to go long in this one, coming off an injury. Look for the Houston bats to get going and France to keep the offense down from Cleveland.
Bet the Houston Astros to win this game over the Cleveland Guardians on Monday. Take Houston -140 over Cleveland.
