The New Orleans Saints are at the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday for Week 2 of the National Football League preseason.
The Saints and the Chargers both won their first game of the preseason. The Saints came away with a 26-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. For the Chargers, they smacked the Rams around 34-17 in their opener.
This game on Sunday Night features the New Orleans Saints as a three-point favorite. The total for this game is listed at 37.5 points.
Saints With Eyes on the Prize
The New Orleans Saints clearly have their eyes on the prize, and that’s a wide-open NFC South Divisional title. The Saints, Panthers, and Falcons all tied at 7-10 a season ago.
Now, the Saints look to be the team that decides the difference between those three teams. The Saints brought over Derek Carr to take over as the quarterback. He takes over for Andy Dalton, who played most of last season under center.
In the preseason win over the Chiefs, Carr threw 6 of 8 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. Jameis Winston and Jake Haener finished off the game, with all three quarterbacks throwing a touchdown.
Jamaal Williams will get the running back job, at least early in the season, with Alvin Kamara missing the first three games due to an NFL suspension. Williams carried the ball nine times for 28 yards in the game.
Chris Olave and Michael Thomas will be one of the top duos in the league at receiver. Olave led the team in receiving a season ago, with more than 1,000 yards. The Saints look for health from these two, and Carr got them the ball early and often down the field. Neither played in the preseason opener.
Los Angeles Looking for Second Straight Preseason Win
The Los Angeles Chargers are looking for their second straight preseason win after blasting the Rams. The Chargers are a pick for many to be a threat to take down the Chiefs in the AFC West and possibly in all of the AFC. Justin Herbert is back under center and in the Top 5 for the NFL MVP in 2023.
Herbert finished last season with more than 4,700 yards passing last year. Much like the Saints, the Chargers have a pair of receivers that are hard to defend. Michael Williams and Keenan Allen led the charge. Williams had 895 yards, and Allen finished with 752 in 10 games a season ago.
In the preseason opener, the Chargers used Easton Stick and Max Duggan. Duggan saw his first action since playing in the National Title game with TCU. He threw just three passes in the game.
The top threats in the game for the Chargers via the air were Keelan Doss and Derius Davis. They combined for 60 yards on five receptions.
Quentin Johnson caught the lone touchdown pass. On the ground. Elijah Dotson was solid, with 92 yards and two touchdowns. The Chargers rushed for 214 yards in the game.
Chargers Win at Home
It’s hard to believe that the Los Angeles Chargers are the underdogs in this game. Sure, it’s a preseason game, but the Saints are not better than the Chargers.
Los Angeles should be one of the most talented teams in all of the National Football League. They looked good in the opener against the Rams. Look for them to continue playing well in this game.
The bet for the Sunday Night Football game in Week 3 of the preseason is the Los Angeles Chargers +3 over the New Orleans Saints.
