In College Football on Wednesday, the Florida International Panthers are on the road at the New Mexico State Aggies.
Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces, New Mexico, will be the location for this game. This is a Conference USA game between two teams that have yet to win a conference game. The Panthers beat the Aggies 21-7 back on October 1st, 2022.
The Panthers come into the game with a 3-2 record on the season but have dropped back-to-back games in the conference. The Panthers are tied with UTEP at the bottom of the conference standings. For the Aggies, they lost their first game and their most recent game.
The three games in between were wins. The Aggies beat Maine, North Texas, and UConn. New Mexico State is coming off a conference loss to Liberty last week.
New Mexico State comes into this game as the favorite. The Aggies are listed at -5.5, with a total of 50.5 points.
Panthers Looking to Rebound from Blowout
With three wins in a row, the Panthers came into the home game against Liberty with high hopes. The Panthers just could not muster up any offense, and the Flames moved to 4-0 and 2-0 in league play with a 38-6 win. The first loss was at Louisiana Tech, who is also 2-0 in league play as well.
Florida International has struggled all season on the offensive side of the ball. The Panthers are scoring 21.4 points per game, which ranks 108th in the country. Florida International is averaging just 203 yards per game via the pass and 111 via the ground.
The top threats for the Panthers are quarterback Keyone Jenkins, running back Shomari Lawrence, and receiver Kris Mitchell. Mitchell leads the team with 23 receptions and four touchdowns.
Aggies Seeking Consistency
The New Mexico State Aggies are seeking some kind of consistency this season. At 2-3, they have lost, won, lost, won, lost this season. The most recent loss came on a field goal as the clock expired on the road at Hawaii. The lone conference loss this season was also on the road at Liberty.
The Aggies can boast about their state rivalry win over New Mexico back in Week 4. New Mexico State is a little better on the offensive side, with 29.8 points per game.
The run game for the Aggies is the key. 203.8 yards per game on the ground, with several guys getting opportunities. Quarterback Diego Pavia is the leading rusher with 50 carries for 268 yards, but Star Thomas leads the team with three touchdowns.
In the passing game, Jonathan Brady and Trent Hudson are the top receivers, who both have three touchdowns on the season. New Mexico State is playing their first of three straight Wednesday night games. In the next two weeks, they will take on Sam Houston State at home and then a trip to UTEP.
Aggies Smack Panthers
The New Mexico State are due for a win. They are at home in this game, and their ability to pass and run the football is going to be the difference.
The Panthers of Florida International are just going to have a tough time scoring enough. When we go to make our final score prediction, we are looking at something like 31-13 New Mexico State wins. A couple of passing touchdowns in the second half put this game away.
Florida International remains winless in conference play, while the Aggies grab their first win. Bet the New Mexico State Aggies -5.5 over the Florida International Panthers.
