A pair of Eastern Conference teams that both went to the postseason a season ago will meet up for their first game of the 2023-2024 season.
The Boston Celtics are at the New York Knicks.
Madison Square Garden is the venue for the event, and we expect a great game between these two rivals. The Celtics are one of the favorites to win it all and finished 57-25 last season, but falling in the Eastern Conference Finals to Miami.
The New York Knicks went 47-35 and garnered the fifth seed in the East. The Boston Celtics are favorites in this game. Boston is listed at -3.5 on the road.
Tatum Leads Electric Celtics Offense
Jayson Tatum is going to be the main man in Boston again this season. A season ago, Tatum was awesome, pouring in more than 30 points per game and ripping down 8.8 rebounds per game.
The Celtics did lost one of their glue guys; Marcus Smart. He is now with the Memphis Grizzlies. Smart scored 11.5 points per game, dishing out 6.3 assists per game and also getting 1.5 steals per game.
Taking his place in the starting rotation will be former Bucks guard Jrue Holiday. Derrick White will take the starting small guard role, while Kristaps Porzingis was also added and will be the starting center. Jaylen Brown is another key part of the Boston offense, as he scored 26.6 points per game a season ago.
The Celtics have this game on the road and then will come home and play a rematch of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Heat. The Celtics then finish the month with a road trip to Washington to take on the Wizards.
Knicks Look to Be Eastern Conference Sleeper
When talking about the Eastern Conference, Miami is the defending champion, while the Bucks and Celtics are favorites. The 76ers have talent but have drama, and Cleveland seems to fit the sleeper role. The Knicks are a team that many forget. This is a talented team playing in the Big Apple.
The Knicks were led by Julius Randle a season ago, with 25.1 points and ten rebounds per game. The guard play from Jalen Brunson was key to the offense, as the former Villanova star dished out 6.2 assists per game. Quentin Grimes, RJ Barrett, and Mitchell Robinson are the projected starters to fill with Randle and Brunson.
Off the bench for the Knicks, Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo, along with Isaiah Hartenstein and Immanuel Quickley, will get the most minutes. New York will play their first game of the season at home but then have a trio of road games.
The Knicks travel to Atlanta, New Orleans, and Cleveland to wrap up October before coming back home to host the Cavaliers on November 1st.
Boston and New York Meet Again
The Madison Square Garden is going to be rocking for this game. The Knicks know they are a little bit of an underdog in this game, and the home crowd does as well. There are some new faces in Boston, and we expect them to get off to a slow start. The Knicks are going to win this game straight up.
The final bet for this game is the New York Knicks moneyline. You can grab them at +125. If you want to play it safe, take the Knicks +3.5.
