In the National Basketball Association on Friday, the San Antonio Spurs will take on the Golden State Warriors. Both teams have gotten off to slow starts on the season, as the Spurs have the worst record in the Western Conference. San Antonio is 3-12 on the season, and have dropped 10 straight games. The Spurs are 8.5 games out of the Western Conference, and sit a ½ game behind the Grizzlies in the bottom spot. The Spurs are allowing more than 123 points per game.
For the Golden State Warriors, they are 2-8 in their last 10. They are coming off a loss to the Suns on Wednesday night. The Warriors are 7-9 overall, and 11th in the Western Conference. Golden State has won just two out of eight games at home this season.
The Golden State Warriors are -10.5 at home over the Spurs. The total is listed at 233.5.
Warriors Not the Warriors of Old
The Golden State Warriors are going through some big time struggles to start their season. The Warriors allowed 123 in their loss to the Suns, and 130 earlier in the week to the Thunder. THe defense for Golden State is just not getting the job done. Also in the loss, the Warriors point guard Chris Paul was ejected.
Steph Curry once again leads the Warriors in scoring. The guard is scoring more than 29 points per game. Curry is making just shy of 48% of his shots. He is not getting a ton of help though. Draymond Green cannot stay on the court, Klay Thompson has been poor this season, and Paul is aging.
Thompson is second on the team with 15 points per game, but his 29 minutes per game are fairly ineffective. Andrew Wiggins has played in all 16 games, and is third in scoring with 11.9 per game. Golden State is on the road at the Kings on Tuesday, before playing back to back and three out of their next four against the Clippers.
Spurs Desperate for a Win
Greg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs need a win, and they need it in a bad way. The Spurs saw their former leader Kawhi Leonard score 26 points in the recent loss to the Clippers. The last win they got was in October, when they beat Phoenix in back to back games. Over their last five losses, the Spurs are allowing more than 120 points per game.
Rookie Victor Wembanyama is leading the charge in scoring, with more than 18 per game. The big man has played 30 minutes per game so far as well. Tre Jones is scoring 8 points and dishing out 5.2 assists per game, while forward Zach Collins has nice numbers as well with 15 points per game. In the recent loss, Wembanyama scored 22 points and recorded 15 rebounds.
The Spurs are playing their first of back to back road games. San Antonio is at Denver on Sunday, before hosting the Hawks on Thursday.
Warriors Pick up Home Win
The Golden State Warriors need to get back on track, and this seems to be a game they should be able to do so. Will the Spurs ever win again? Of course, but it’s going to be a struggle. Take the Warriors -10.5. Sure, it’s a big spread, but Golden State gets the job done easily here.
