The 2023 PokerGO Tour is now over after the coveted $500,000 prize has been awarded after a terrific battle. There were 132 events as part of the 2023 PokerGO Tour and over $352 million in prize money was handed out throughout the year.
The big winner this time around was Daniel Smiljkovic, who is a poker pro from the country of Germany. This is an event that brings poker players from all over the world as they all converge to compete for the top prize.
This was the second straight year that the tour ended with a PGT Championship freeroll and the top 40 point earners were competing against one another. Last year the entire prize pool was just $500,000, but PokerGO doubled the prize pool to $1 million, and handed out a massive prize to the winner.
Smiljkovic has now won over $6 million throughout his career playing poker, but he had to work hard in order to come away with a win in this one.
Plenty of Drama
It didn’t look like Smiljkovic was going to come away with the title in this event at one point as he got down in a big way during heads up action. The player across the table from Smiljkovic during heads up play was actress Arden Cho.
Smiljkovic wasn’t the only one that had to overcome big odds throughout this event as it was a massive surprise to see Cho in this position at all. When the final day started, Cho was dealing with a short stack, but she was able to dig deep in order to take a late lead.
Cho was able to sit back and watch other players drop out of the final table, and that strategy paid off. Smiljkovic was responsible for getting some of the other players out of the final table, but he came into heads up play with a massive disadvantage.
One big hand turned the tide for Smiljkovic, and he proved why he is one of the best poker players in the world. Smiljkovic earned over $2.6 million in PokerGO Championship action alone, but he also had a successful year playing online poker in some big events.
Big Names Miss Out
There are massive poker tournaments taking place all year long in Las Vegas, Nevada, but some tend to attract bigger names than others. That is the case with the PokerGO Tournament Championship as many of the best poker players in the world got in on the action.
This event took place at the PokerGO Studio at the ARIA Casino & Resort, and some of the top players from tUnited States spend plenty of time in that location. Smiljkovic had to earn this win against some of the best names in the industry,
Phil Hellmuth has won 17 bracelets throughout his career, and he was one of the big names that came up short in this one. Erik Seidel and Daniel Negreanu were two of the other biggest names that entered this tournament, but came up a bit short.
