Marquette Seeking Five Straight
In the current four game winning streak for Marquette, they are scoring 80 points per game. That offense is going to go a long way for them, as long as their defense keeps allowing just 67.6 per game. Marquette has struggled on the glass, with just 33.2 rebounds per game, but are one of the most unselfish teams in College Hoops, with 16.4 assists per game.
Tyler Kolek and Oso Ighodaro are leaders for the Marquette offense. Kolek led the team for most of the season in scoring, but Ighodaro has taken over, just barely, as 14.6 per game. Kolek is at 14.2 per game, along with 7.1 assists.
The Golden Eagles are playing back to back road games, and four of their next five on the road. After this, Marquette will head to Georgetown. The lone home game is against St. John’s, before back to back games at Butler and UConn.
Must Win for Villanova
Villanova really could use that one massive win for the program to turn this season around. At 11-9, and 4-5 in league play, they are on the outside looking in for a NCAA Tournament berth. This team has wins over Maryland, Texas Tech and North Carolina in preseason action. The Wildcats are on a four game losing streak, and losing by an average of 10.25 per game.
Eric Dixon is the top scorer for the Wildcats this season. The forward is scoring 15.6 points per game, in nearly 30 minutes per game. Justin Moore is averaging 11.1 points per game, and dishing out 2 assists per game. The Wildcats have been one of the worst passing teams in the nation, with just 12.1 assists per game.
Villanova will stay home after this game and host Providence. A trip to Xavier on February 7th will lead into another home game against Seton Hall on February 11th.
Wildcats Top Golden Eagles
It’s been a tough season for the Villanova Wildcats. This is not the Villanova team of old. But, a win over a ranked Marquette team could be just what the doctor ordered to get them back on track. We do anticipate this being a great basketball game. Villanova at home gets some magic going as they come away with a win. In the end, we are going to be the Villanova Wildcats -110 over the Marquette Golden Eagles in this affair on Tuesday!
