The action at the 2024 World Series of Poker is just getting going, but there have already been some exciting tournaments. A pair of tournaments wrapped up on Sunday, June 2nd, and both events were won by previous WSOP bracelet winners.
That is nothing new in this event as it’s common to see repeat winners with another cash at the WSOP. Neither of the tournaments were big events, but every win matters when playing at the WSOP in Las Vegas.
Guagenti Earns Small Win
Nick Guagenti was the first repeat winner on Sunday as he walked away with $121,074 by winning the $1,500 limit hold-em tournament, and he also got his second career WSOP bracelet in the process.
This was his first WSOP win since 2020, and it was actually the first time that he has won a live event. His first win came during the online version of the WSOP that was played during the COVID-19 pandemic that year.
While this was just his second ever win at the WSOP, Guagenti has won more than $2.7 million throughout his poker career. Even though this was a relatively small tournament, there was still 443 players that signed up to compete in this tournament.
This was a two-day tournament, but only six players were able to make it to the final table on the second day. This always felt like a good chance for Guagenti to get a win as he had a big chip lead when action resumed on the second day.
By the time that Joseph Brodsky met up with Guagenti for some heads up action, it was a 7:3 chip lead. Brodsky was able to make this one interesting by playing for a few horse, but he ultimately fell to just $80,000 by taking home second place.
Yockey Takes Home Big Prize
Bryce Yockey has been looking for his second WSOP gold bracelet since his first win back in 2017, and he finally got that done. Yockey was able to take home the top prize in the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha Event, and there were 733 players in the field.
Not only was this a large group of poker players, but it also led to a pretty nice payday for Yockey in this tournament. By taking home the top prize, Yockey was able to bring home a career-best win of $606,654.
While most of his $5.1 million in career earnings have come from playing no-limit hold’em tournaments, Yockey has been working on his PLO game. That could lead to a huge summer as there will be many different tournaments that are played in this format.
It hasn’t been an extremely successful year so far for Yockey, as he just hasn’t been able to finish tournaments off. This was his third final table of the year, but only the first time that he was able to get a win.
The top six players in this tournament all won at least $100,000, making it an extremely competitive final table.
