The World Poker Association has continually been working to create a set of standards in the areas of conduct and rules for tournaments in the poker world. The World Poker Association’s first ever educational conference will take place on May 28-29 and will help to build that process. The conference will take place at the Rio and Mike Caro will be the MC for the event. The World Poker Association Board had recently appointed a new chair, Wendeen Eolis. When Wendeen was appointed that seat she immediately set to work on securing a deal with WSOP. Wendeen spoke with the tournament organizers and talked them into to having nine handed tables to create a mega-satellite at the second day of the conference. The WPA website states that they will be working together with the WSOP Tournament director, Jack Effel, very soon to add various rules that are recommended by the WPA for the Mega Satellite.
Wendeen has been working with the Director Thomas Kremser, who is the tournament rules chairman, to help expand the WPA rules for tournaments. Wendeen believes that beginning with the WSOP as with the mega satellite is a good first step in improving playing conditions. Before gaining her newly appointed seat, Wendeen was the Vice Chair of the board for the WPA. During her time at that position, she oversaw the drafting of an ethics code and she also worked directly on bylaws provision this past year.
On the future of the WPA, Wendeen said: “I plan to keep my foot on the pedal and our collective feet to the fire so as to provide concrete results that serve our membership’s interests – sooner rather than later,”
