A Camrose local was named the county card shark after winning the first ever celebrity poker tournament for the Boys and Girls Club at the Camrose Resort and Casino in Canada.
Trevor Miller entered the poker tournament to represent the county in the first ever charity tournament held to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Camrose. Among the local celeb’s in attendance were players from a local radio station (CAM-FM), Vital Effect, the local Fire Department (Camrose Fire) the police station.
The players pitted against each other for their chosen charities, challenging the poker strategies of their opponents, until finally, councilor Miller emerged the winner.
“I chose the Boys and Girls Club because I wanted to give the money to a local charity, keep the funds in the community,” Miller told press representatives in Canada. “It’s a very worthy cause, of course, by providing children with an outlet for activities.”
Miller won the $500 for the Boys and Girls program in the Canadian Poker tournament which Rees James from the program said would be put to good use in the groups summer program:
“We run the program to give youth a chance to do things they normally wouldn’t get the chance to do,†James explained. “Every summer we try to organize events and take them out on field trips out of the city.â€Â
So what winning strategy did Miller employ to win the game? None.
“It’s all about luck.” Said the councilman, “I never really expected to win after being down to a chip,†he commented. “I’ve played a few games with family, but never in tournaments.”
