Event #22 of the 2012 World Series of Poker was a $2,500 buy-in 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball (Limit) tournament and the event recently finished up with a surprise winner. Randy Ohel took the gold bracelet in this event, which came as a surprise to many as several regular pros were expected to take the win.
Several top pros were seated at the final table of the event, including Josh Arieh, Layne Flack, Shawn Buchanan and David Baker. Many thought the final two would be any of these pros but they all were put out before heads up play began.
When three handed play began, it would be David Baker, Randy Ohel and Benjamin Lazer left sitting at the felt. Baker was in trouble with the low stack and eventually he would go all in and would be called by Ohel. Baker thought he had the hand but in the end Ohel’s hand was better and Baker would be out in third place.
This would leave Ohel and Lazer in heads up play. Heads up play in this event would prove to be an epic battle. The two would face off for over six hours before Ohel would claim his first WSOP win. The chip lead would go back and forth so many times that it was too hard to count. Both players would be on the low end a couple of times but both would battle back until they were even once again.
Finally, around two in the morning, Lazer would be down to less than one big blind and he had to go all in. Lazer would show 8x-6x-5x-3x on his final hand and Ohel would show 9x-6x-4x-3x-2x and with a five pairing in the end, Ohel would earn the first place finish and Lazer would be eliminated in second place.
