The 2012 World Series of Poker has been a great success and the most anticipated event, the Main Event, is winding down. The sixth day of play wrapped up early this morning and now just twenty seven players are left to compete in the tournament. The $10,000 buy-in tournament started out with 6,598 players and now the final twenty seven will be competing to be part of the final nine who make it to the final table.
First place will take home over $8.5 million and the current chip leader of the event is Marc Ladouceur. Marc has almost 16 million chips and the average chip stack of players still left in the tournament is just over 7 million. Jamie Robbins is also a contender to reach the final table. Robbins finished in 11th place back in 2009 and is hoping to reach the final table this year.
Robbins spoke with Card Player about his quest in the event and commented: “I’m final table or bust. I said that on the first day of play and I’m sticking to it. Anything short of that goal will be a major disappointment for me. The money is great, but I need to be in that final nine to consider this tournament a success.”
There are also two women left in the competition who are vying to make the final table. Elisabeth Hille and Gaelle Baumann are the two females left in the competition and if one or both makes the final table it will be the first time since 1995 that a female will make the final table. Barbara Enright was the first woman to do so and both Baumann and Hille are hoping to become the second woman to make the final table in the tournament’s history.
