Well, after a Day 1 that took three days to finish, the 2008 Aussie Millions finally had all the poker players gathered in one room for the start of Day 2. A total of 338 players started Day 2 which by its end would see a lot of early leaders fall to the rail on only 98 go on to see Day 3.
It was a tough day for some of the great poker names in the game. Phil Ivey, an early chip leader, saw his tournament end when he got all in with bottom pair top kicker versus a flopped two pair. Clonie Gowen pushed early with A-Q of hearts but ran into pocket kings and with no ace appearing, she was eliminated.
Joe Hachem and Howard Lederer both got all their money in with the best hands only to be out drawn by the river and sent home. Lederer can take over a million dollars home from the trip though as the winner of $100,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’Em event 9. John Juanda pocket fives saw no improvement with his opponent holding pocket tens and he was also eliminated in Day 2.
Other players who will not see Day 3 are Michael Binger, Allen Cunningham, Ari Engel, Tony G, JJ Liu, Graeme Pu, Jon ‘Pearljammer’ Turner and Shane Warne, the cricket star making news this week by signing a sponsorship with 888.com.
A few big names that are still left include: Kenna James, Erick Lindgren, Jeff Lisandro, Mike Matusow ‘The Mouth’ and Max Pescatori
