The 2013 World Series of Poker kicks off today and will continue on for 49 consecutive days. Professional and amateur poker players from around the world will meet up at the Rio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, to compete in the various events at this year’s WSOP.
The first event of the long anticipated series kicked off at noon for the $500 Casino Employees event which is of no limit hold’em format. This event is a tradition for the WSOP and the start-up event each year. The second event on the books for today is the $5,000 Eight-Handed No Limit Hold’em tournament which will take place over a four day period.
After today, the series will continue to host a series of tournaments of different formats and buy-ins per the usual. However, one of the big tournaments that everyone is talking about is the Millionaire Maker.
This tournament will begin this Saturday and will take place over a three day time span. On Day 1A, players will be able to buy back in for $1,500 to come back on 1B. the event will be giving away a $1 million first place prize, which is guaranteed by Caesars Entertainment.
The event is sure to see quite a large number of competitors all vying for the top prize of $1 million. The buy-in is quite low so many players will be able to buy in and the guaranteed first place prize is so high that there will be tons of pros looking to register.
The series will then come to a close after the $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event. This event will begin on July 6th and continue in the same format as last year with 3 starting flights. Those remaining after day 1 will move on to day 2 flights and then move on to day 3 which will begin the single field round. The tournament will eventually conclude on the 15th when the final nine will be named and the event will pause until November.
