On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, a woman left Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa angry and frustrated. She was from playing slot machine games and lost $380. Police in Florida confirm that the woman called the casino, saying that she had planted a bomb in the facility.
After the call, the casino’s management reported the issue to the police department, who responded to the threat immediately. Early Wednesday morning, the police traced the cell number to Adele Belizaire. The 54-year-old woman is from spring hill in Florida but was staying in a hotel on Clearwater Beach.
After being located, Adele admitted to making a bomb threat to the Seminole Tribe owned casino. She said that her anger issues got the best of her. Adele had returned to her hotel room to calm down after losing $380, but her anger overpowered her, resulting in the call she made.
Belizaire will be charged with a second-degree felony for making a false report about mass destruction, planting a bomb, explosive, or weapon. Now, she is still at the Pinellas County Jail.
According to Florida law, anyone who makes a false alarm or threat about bombs is charged with up to $10,000 fine plus a prison time of up to 15 years.
The Tampa Bomb Threat Is One of the Many That Have Unfolded in the Recent Past
The Tampa bomb threat is one of the several hoaxes in the past few weeks. The police had to respond to several calls only to determine the bomb threats as a hoax.
At the end of April 2021, the police in Louisiana State charged a security guard who worked at Bossier City Hotel & Casino. The guard called police at his place of work, claiming two bomb threats.
The guard, Darell Ligin Davis, a 21-year-old man, was arrested by Louisiana State Police and is charged with two counts of relaying false information about the bombing. Darell faces a prison time of up to 15 years.
The Metropolitan Police Department in Las Vegas also arrested a man for calling McCarran International for threatening to blow up planes and shoot people. The culprit was staying at South Point Hotel Casino, just south of the Strip.
Hard Rock Tampa Casino is a 245,000 sq. ft. gaming facility. It has 5000 slot machines, a poker room with 46 tables, and 179 table games. If the bomb threat was not a hoax, it could cause massive destruction that the casino could take months before recovering.
Yet, Bomb Threats Are Not As Common
Although bomb hoaxes make the news, the Bomb Data Center of Explosives Incident Report by the United States Department of Justice claims they are rare. For example, there were 1228 bomb threats reported in 2017, which was 20 percent less than those reported in 2016.
Although the numbers continue to decrease, bomb threats targeting large crowds have increased by 30 percent since 2016. Places such as assemblies, residential properties, offices, and education centers are the top four targets for bomb threats.
