In the past, the World Poker Tour’s Tournament of Champions has taken place in Florida at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Now, it seems the WPT wants a change of venue, moving to a new spot for the final event of the current season. It was recently announced that the WPT event will now be moving to the ARIA Resort & Casino in Nevada.
In a press release, Adam Pliska, the CEO of the WPT, stated that the WPT is honored to have the ARIA host the Tournament of Champions for Season XVI and to return to Las Vegas. Pliska called the current season of the WPT ‘historic’ as it has awarded its one-billionth prize dollar this year as well as traveled to new areas around the world, including stops in South America and Beijing.
If the upcoming WPT Tournament of Champions takes place as it has before, the event will be a closed and will be invitation-only. The only players who are allowed to take part in the Tournament of Champions are those who are WPT Champions Club members. This club consists of individuals who have won a Main Tour title during the past 16 seasons of the WPT. Title winners of Season XVI are provided a free entry. Players from previous seasons who qualify must pay $15,000 to participate.
The official schedule of the World Poker Tour Main Tour has yet to be updated to include the Tournament of Champions event. It is believed to be set for May of next year. The ARIA will be hosting one Main Tour event before the Tournament of Champions takes place which will provide poker players with one more chance to quality for the big, season-ending event. We will update with more information on the WPT Tournament of Champions as it is released.
