Poker rooms seem to be on the decline in Atlantic City. The Revel Casino closed their poker room just two months ago and now the Golden Nugget has confirmed that they have closed their poker room as well. According to a recent TwoPlusTwo post and a confirmation from USPoker, the poker room at the Golden Nugget shut down on October 10th and is no longer in service.
According to Johnkins, a poster at TwoPlusTwo, the poker room was hosting a Tournament Of Champions freeroll and this was the last tournament the poker room would be hosting. The poker room was apparently going to join up with Bravo for promotional opportunities but never got the chance. One forum poster asked if the poker room paid out the bad beat like The Revel poker room did when they closed and Johnkins responded that they did.
The player stated that after the tournament was over a cash table was set up and they gave away all the money. Players were able to earn $500 each hour as a high hand bonus, on top of the bad beat money being given away. Money earned from a poker room via a promotion has to be paid out if the poker room closes as the funds are taken from players as part of cash games. This is a separate form of rake.
The closure of the Golden Nugget poker room comes just a few weeks before the state will offer online gaming. Bally Interactive has formed a partnership with Golden Nugget to offer online gambling in the state and this will include the game of poker. The casino already has an online site for free poker play and is set up nicely to be ready for real money gaming.
