Benton Blakeman is not a big name in the live poker scene, but he was just able to score himself a big win at Resorts World Las Vegas. Blakeman is a player that chooses to stay away from the top poker events, but he decided to try his hand at the PokerAtlas Tour Madness tournament.
This was a terrific decision for Blakeman as he was able to walk away with a win, and claimed over $42,000 as a cash prize. That’s not a massive win when comparing it to some of the other top events, but Blakeman is still under $300,000 in career winnings.
While Blakeman is not someone that shows up much at the big events, he is well known throughout the city of Las Vegas. He spends much of his time playing small cash games at the Bellagio, but this could encourage him to enter more big events.
It was some serious work for Blakeman to come up with a win at this main event as the action lasted more than 12 hours. There weren’t a ton of big names in this event, but other players at the final table had more experience.
A Look at the Results
Not only did Blakeman come away with the top prize at this event, but he also took home Player of the Year points. Those points could be critical later in the year, but he will have to enter many more PokerAtlas Tour events to make those matter.
Thomas Symonds took home second place in the event, and that was good enough for a win of $29,860 and 350 POY points. Everyone in the top nine was awarded at least $4,200, but the prizes dropped quickly when looking at the top leaderboard.
Muelas Ro finished in third place at this event and that allowed him to rack up a win of nearly $20,000. Wade Cirto fell out of the running just before Ro and took home $12,500 for his efforts at this event.
Some Great Poker Action
There were a total of 526 entries in this big event, and the buy-in was $500 for all those that were interested. Instead of just placing all of the players in one big pool, there were six different starting flights that poker players had to navigate.
By the time the final day of the event started, there were just 45 players remaining. It didn’t take long for that field to be whittled down to just nine players, but that is really when the best action took place.
Things weren’t looking good for Blakeman when the play at the final table began as he was trailing the leaders by a wide margin. Blakeman was able to get back in the running by doubling up his money at one point, and that is where his skills really started to show.
It was a methodical approach by Blakeman that allowed him to get back into the lead of this event, and he was able to finish things off in dramatic fashion.
